I need a new knife for making pb&j.
I would like to stay under $300.
Something with a stainless blade and stag handle would be nice. Nothing too hi tech.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Sorry, this question is way too broad. Could you please provide some specific details of your intended uses (i.e., wheat vs. white bread; chunky vs. creamy, etc.).

I was having trouble finding a knife I liked for that very same purpose. A friend in food service turned my on to an idea. Take a good sized serving spoon (family sized, not comercial) and hammer it flat. Works beautifully. Now just find a spoon with the handle you wand and hammer away.

I apologise for discussing spoons on a knife forum, but the is no reason you can't sharpen the edge...

a serrated buttrolman! you can make really cool patterns in the peanut butter. or any oneida butter knife, which is cheap. do you need help putting your shorts on?

this thread gets my vote for lamest of the week

My vote goes to the MD Tusk. Shouldn't have to worry too much about the edge chipping out - although I'd stay away from the chunky style just to make sure.

Use anything you want for the jelly but peanut butter requires Talonite!

Ohhh man, here's a topic I can really sink my teeth into....

P'nut butter-n-nana sammiches, the way my momma used to make 'em, don't need no knife. You just get about three fingers in there and wiggle 'em around...then slap that gooey stuff on the bottom half of a fresh loaf of momma's bread...

And don't you feller's be makin' no jokes about my momma now...cause I'll have to pull some kung-foo-fightin on your a$$...

Hey Greg, You need some coffee to go with your peanut butter, and jelly sandwich...

Nothing but this will do. I don't know how much it costs, but I'm sure it is in the thousands. I don't think it is realistic to find a knife for less than $300 which is up to the task.

Don't know about peanut butter, but I once succeded in slicing a bagel and spreading the cream cheese with a Spyderco Civilian. Kinda messy - not the right tool for the job.

Something with a fully serrated edge might let you do interesting "raked" patterns in the peanut butter or cream cheese - like one of those "zen" gardens.

Now I do know where to find a stag-handled Camillus Talonite Talon

in that price range that would do a superb job of making all kinds of picnic lunch.

And yes, this thread is willfully lame, but it's knife-related, so what the heck.

You only need a knife if the jar is almost empty. Then you cut off the top of the jar (this works best with a plastic jar)with the knife and use your finger to scrape out the remaining peanut butter.

It's widely known that the CS Gurkha Kukri is the best knife for spreading peanut butter. Ask anybody...

Greg, without more information I cannot process your request.....

As mentioned above:

Smooth Peanut butter?
Crunchy Peanut butter?
Mixed nuts Peanut butter?
White bread?
Whole Wheat bread?
Toasted?
Will you be including Bananas into the mix?

Please respond in a timely manner as you can see we are very busy here at BFC Central....

Greg, where do you like to carry your knife?

Well, if you carry a knife stuck in peanut butter bottle you can justify your knife carry within legality. Don't forget wiping your blade if you use it otherwise. Ex. when slicing bread for tuna sandwitch.

Seriously now ....

folks have complained about Cutco's pricing vs. quality, but they make THE best tool for bagel cutting & spreading. It has an elongated oval shaped blade, serrated on one side. Works great.

In a purley scientific experiment I just succesfully concocted a double decker PBJ with my SOG Tsunami... I heartily reccomend tanto style knives... they are thin enough to fit in the peanut butter jar, yet straight edged to allow for 1 stroke even coverage across the bread.

Jelly first, then peanut butter of course.

Now if I could only get my wife to stop laughing at me... she just doesn't understand...
