What's your favorite knife steel?

Ok, this is strange..because I was thinking the same thing.

Maybe we are twins separated at birth?
Are you also amazingly handsome with an IQ of 400? :D

I really like AUS8, Byrd steel, and SAK steel.
Would love to they the Kershaw stuff.

SAK steel is good stuff. Never rusts, you can reprofile one in just a couple minutes and it gets hair popping sharp with little effort. Doesn't hold an edge too long, but with how quick a touch-up is it doesn't really matter.

Favorites: W2, M2, ZDP189, BG42, S90V,SG1, SG2 ( super gold), Vascowear, Super Blue, A2, 1070 thru 1095, Duratech 20CV ( team leader at RC 60), plain old VG10

Want to try:CPM M4 , ZDP247 , YXR7, SRS15, CPM S125V, 10V, T1, F8 etc.

What he said. Plus CPM 15V, CPM Rex76 (@66Rc), S-7, and H-1.

Of the stuff I've used, I have to say I'm impressed with ZDP-189. I've been carrying my ZDP Caly 3 since May and have only given it a light stropping twice.

On top of that, I've probably cut a few dozen feet of 1/4" leather over the summer, mostly with the tip. It is starting to fray and rip paper in a push cut but a little back and forth motion smooths that out nicely.
I'll have some Spyderco ceramic bench stones in a few days, we'll see what kind of an edge I can give it after that.

Oh, and don't forget INFI and FF D-2!

My favorite blade steels are: 1095, D2, 8670 (as done by John Greco) and Case's CV (I'm not sure what it is, exactly). Yep, I prefer carbon steels, or a reasonable facsimile
