What's your favorite quick and fire-less trail lunch?

My goto is a small jar of peanut butter with a metal spoon inside. It's bombproof.

If I'm with my wife, I'll bring wax-sealed cheese, granola bars, trail mix, nuts, dried meats, fruit... you know, stuff that normal people eat.

Last summer I carried PB&J bagels with a bunch of snacks..Granola bars , fruit roll-ups , cereal bars and barely enough water for the three of us...This year I bought a Katadyn Hiker filter..

Favorite is summer sausage with cheese and saltine crakers. Close second is good jerky and trail mix. All washed down with cold water.

Backpacking? Cliff bars, gatorade, sandwiches. I stop for tea at noon, though, to wash down that freezedried junk.

Hunting? Cornbread, cold chicken in a gallon ziplock, PBJ sandwiches on whole wheat smushed in my bergen, more hot tea, whole grain pancakes, just think "easy carbos, + a little fat". My Chessadors also insist on all the above, and the addition of dog biscuits and kibbles. They prefer coffee though, and will steal booze at the drop of a hat.

Think Thin protein bars are pretty good, or the standard PB sammich packs a good protein / carb punch. I like to keep it pretty simple.

Sometimes I'll throw together some trail mix or a bag of seeds to munch on the run.

Sometimes a couple of tins of sardines, doesn't change my breath much...... I was walking along a shoreline trail killing Grouse in the north. I came across an opened can of beans that were eaten cold by a Dene Indian. I thought ''what the hell'', works for me too. The sardines are lighter than a can of fartin' beans though.

if this is just a day hike, i don't worry too much about lunch. i pack GORPM, jerky and an orange or apple. i keep it light because on the way home, i typically like to grab a bite to eat and a beer.

if i am out for longer than a day, i will really just bring a loaf of "rock bread"...any dense, whole-grain bread...and bring some PB and jelly, tuna or a hunk o' cheese.

i will of course still have GORPM and jerky, but those are more for snacking. i also pack some hard candies...jolly ranchers, jawbreakers, whatever...quick sugary treat and you can make 'em last a bit.

I'll often take a MRE on a long day hike. You don't have to eat it all at one time. Main entre for lunch, the rest for snacks.

ha...sorry guys...just Good Ol' Raisins and Peanuts and M&M's. i talk funny.

Salami, cheese, black dense bread. I can go with that for 3 to 4 days...
Also some chocolate bars - chosen purely by calories/gram.
Third thing - various nuts and dried fruits.

But salami/dry sausage is most important. 30grams proteins, 30 grams animal fat in 100grams of sausage means over 500kcal per 100gram.

Drive threw at McDonalds 2 bacon egg & cheese bis. value meal. Eat one for breakfast save the other for lunch.

I usually like to stop a while and eat... not just grab and go, so I carry MRE's from my basement emergency stock. I've got a couole of cases down there for weather emergencies, etc. and I eat 'em on the trail to help rotate the stock. They're also easy to pack. I can carry two in my Maxped Proteus waist pack so I don't have to carry a lot of gear to have lunch. Takes about 12 minutes to heat it up. While that's happening, I feed and water the dogs. By the time they're done, mine is ready. We're all back walking no more than 30 minutes after we stop.

i have some mre in my basement too...every once and a while i make one for lunch at work....just to use up the older stuff...i went through a case that way and then gave myself an excuse to buy a new case of them.
