What's your favorite SAK?

My 30+ yr young 'Craftsman' is still a favorite, as is the recent 'Smurf' ALOX Farmer. My most recent, a Helmsman, is interesting, too - as is the OHT. They are all still neat.

The Climber has been EVD since 1985 or there about. I have one in my pocket. I’m thinking of changing to the Rucksack, so I can have the locking blade and the wood saw. I didn’t know until I came to this forum that the saw blade could be so handy, I didn’t know that the Vic Farmers had the saw blades when I ordered four of them a few months back for Christmas gifts, I wound up keeping 2 for myself.

This was my first Climber, it didn't have the mystery hook

Then a couple of years ago I retiered it and bought this one, I changed the scales out a few months back.

Then a month or so ago I got goofy and made up some vintage tweed micarta and put them on a Climber, kind of a guitar motive, I spend a lot of time playing, sitting in and jamming with my buddies. The tweed SAK flips them out.

Haven't had a SAK for a long time but just picked up a Super Tinker while cruising Wallmart. I especially wanted scissors, the other tools are a good assortment and a steal at $19.95. Hushnel, I like the '59 Fender Bassman handle theme.

For about thirty years I have been packing the Victorinox Explorer. I am on my third one now. When I started carrying it I did a lot of construction and the Magnifying glass and tweezers removed about a thousand slivers both wood and steel.

I still carry it even thought am retired now but have added the Farmer for it's saw.

Loving this thread and it just made me pick up a Climber to accompany my Alox Farmer :D

Just wondering - does anyone have a width comparison of the popular models? Like a pic of them lined up next to each other for a top spine shot?

Googled but could not find!

Thanks!

I love all of them but I have a Victorinox explorer plus with emerald scales that I carry the most. I never expected that. But it is just plain fun to have a pen, pin, tweezers, toothpick, real phillips, scissors, can and bottle openers, two knives, awl, hook, corkscrew, eyeglass screwdriver, flathead screwdriver. Those are just off the top of my head uses with out even looking at it!

It's big in the pocket and you know it is there, but it is not unbearable or uncomfortable after a few days carry. The bigger size is also nice for when you are using it. Nice and big handle to work with.

No doubt about it for me, it's the Farmer. Seen here in blue and red. Soldier on top in silver:)

I carry the Vic Adventurer constantly as my EDC. I also like the One Handed Trekker with the plain edge on the big blade, the Locksmith for belt carry when a file and other goodies might come in handy. I have a One handed Sentinel in reserve in addition to an Alox Soldier, Parachutist, and a Tinker. Years ago I carried a Tinker at the office and so forth. Then I learned about the Soldier about 10 years ago and really liked that one for EDC. Found the Adventurer after I lost a Soldier and have been carrying it ever since. The One Handed Trekker is a cool knife and it would be my choice for EDC after the Adventurer.

You might note that I tend to be minimalist in my SAK choices except for the Locksmith. I like the large sized ones and as thin as possible for pocket carry. Never use things like cork screws anymore, but the awl, tooth pick, phillips driver, can opener, bottle opener, twizzers gets used quite a bit.

The Compact is my usual work and around town carry -- the right mix of useful tools and size. Outside, a Pioneer Harvester takes over (Like the Farmer, but with a small hawkbill blade instead of the can opener).

If only they made a full-size alox model with scissors...
