What's your favorite Wharncliffe?

Hi,Jack, sorry, but I have a little problem to follow you, that a Spyderco Native is similiar to a wharncliffe-blade. Important for me with a wharncliffe is, that the cut is strictly straight. The coming fixed blade Ronin will have a wharncliffe-blade, I think.

Stefna,
Your right. I took a look at the pic in teh catalog and its not a warncliff. At first glance it did, but I press the page flat and can see a slight curve in the blade. It might also be how the pic was set up in the catalog. Its still a hell of a buy for a spydie.
Good luck
Jack

I love the Wharncliffe blade shape, but I don't own that many.
When I was desiging my first custom folder I knew I wanted a wharncliffe. I borrowed the blade shape from one of Tim Herman's knives, (with his permission). I designed the knife, Art Washburn made it for me, the Damascus Is Devin Thomas and ABS MS PJ Tomes picked out the stag for it.
Maybe I don't own more wharnies because this one would be hard to top.

Always like seeing that one PhilL, indeed a smooth sharp folder! Well done all the way around, your input on design was very good!

PhilL, that's one beautiful knife!

I am getting the feeling from the responses here that there is really very little in production knives with a Wharncliff blade. Guess I'll treasure that Mirage, while I look for others!

Boy that Whitewing is nice!!! Losts of nice Wharnies guys....thanks for the pictures...

The Spyderco KIWI was my favorite when it came out

Benchmades 921 (switchback) just won the spot last week, one heck of pretty knife, and sits so well in my pocket, the sharpest knife I have ever bought too. I love handing it too people they never figure out theres a second blade on it!

Go for one Michael_Aos you'll love it, it's very modern looking ( i guess thats the way to describe it) man it feels great in the hand, what's amazing is that when using the main blade the handle fits the hand nice and feels good, but when you turn it around and use the smaller blade.......it still fits the hand and feels good, I don't know how BM pulled it off but no matter how you hold the thing you have a good grip and good feel for the knife, and I like how the knife just looks, the small blde fits into the design of the knife so well with the small holes drilled in it that it just seems to vanish into the lines of the knife or even makes the handle more standoutish (yea I know) some peeps may not like it, it doesnt have that military/self defense look to it, but it draws peoples attention that normaly look at you like your a nut because you have a knife, and at the same time it's a very practical EDC knife.

Ok my raving review is over, i was looking forward to this knife for quite a few months adn was impressed when I got it hope you are too.

Al Mar Shrike is next :)

Got this one on Sunday, Dec 8th at the Chesapeake knife show, unfortuately don't know the maker! Got it from a purveyor that says he got it from this guy who is an apprentice of a well known maker that I also forgot the name of, but to me, didn't matter much as I didn't buy it for the name but for the style and the thin edge he had made!

The markings on the blade are a C S that are made with straight lines, almost looks like two LESS THAN Symbols << with the second one having a leg that goes down to the left making it a rough S shape...

Knife itself has a blade of damascus steel 2 3/4" long, just right for a small wharncliff, damascus bolster with mammmoth ivory scales, handle is 2 1/2: long so over all its a small package! but very handy, me like lots, sharpened up great, didn't arrive smackin sharp but then not many impress me in that area but I could feel the potential with the well done grind.

Enjoy boys/girls!

ps, but now I have to make a sheath for a fixed blade....ugh...hehe ;)

How about this piece from Reese Weiland. This thing is a TANK.

I've also got a custom wharncliff on order with a maker who will remain anonymous. It will be AMAZING!

Here's a nice example of a Carson large Model 21 with a S30v blade and jigged bone scales.

Both those are nice, the Carson especially, more sheepsfoot than wharncliff but still nice straight edges!!

Gary - I love the looks of that fixed blade. It's a simple yet elegant design, but seems very functional at the same time. It's not one of those "pimp tacticals" that are a bit overboard for actual carry, but just attractive enough to make you want to use it. Good buy!!!

I carry an Elishewitz Cortex about 50% of the time

And Use it I will! Thanks Buzz, the handle could stand to be a little longer but for use, it works fine! The blade, now for me as I've noted around the forums, the blade being 2 3/4" is about right for a small wharncliff, longer blades tend to get in their own way when you work with them, shorter is ok but longer I don't much like...

And to have a piece with mammoth on it just makes it all the nicer!
