Pitdog,

I don't know if this makes me feel cozy or not. I can tell you that it is one of my most used pieces of winter attire. Hot Buns Butt Warmer. I like being able to sit in the snow regardless of what I am wearing for pants. I use wool pants a lot in the winter and this item just seems to work for me. I could only find this site that sells them.

Hey Mike I don't think these look silly at all and have been looking around for something similar and toying with making my own. I have just been on the website for these and the prices are really good ( not looked into shipping costs yet ) thanks for the link !

I'm a fan of the Columbia wool gear too. For the money it's a good jacket. I also enjoy getting to wear my Pendleton had. Too hot to wear it around here in the summer.

Those longhunter shirts look like a good deal.

I may have to pick up one of those Columbia wool jackets. Have seen them around here in Scheels, but wasn't quite sure about them.

Right now my favorite winter coat is my Carhartt coat. It's dark brown and actually is very good winter camoflage when you're in timber, blends right in with the trees.

I should add that I am a big fan of wool myself as well, here I am wearing my Woolrich shirt, this see's a lot of use !

someday I'm gonna get a blanket coat!

Really, I'm very partial to layers. My favorites are a good cotton longsleeve under one of my dwindling supply of linen/silk longsleeve tees. Then I add in various orders and combinations a good wool sweater, flannel, leather coat and snowboarding jacket.

I've also been known to wear longjohns under a kilt.

Mike- that wool shirt looks pretty nice. I may have to get one.

"I've also been known to wear longjohns under a kilt."

That is not a very good mental picture. lol

Funny, when the subject said favorite piece of winter clothing, my very first thought was my Chippewa boots. But then I love them for all seasons, cool in the winter, warm and comfy in sub-zero temps.

I guess for a jacket/sweater it would have to be my Army synthetic sweater paired with my Columbia shell.

Thanks for posting the link to the wool shirts Mike, I had seen those and forgotten about them. Been looking for something similar for a while.

I have no idea how to go about it (who could do it) but I'm thinking of getting someone to stitch up a shirt like described in the other wool thread.

My favorite winter jacket is a vintage Air Force snorkel parka (back when they were still using timber wolf for the fur. Got it for $30 in a thrift store!)

Combine that with a good watch cap, Columbia gloves, Smartwool socks, and Corcoran flight boots and I'm pretty much all set! I just need to find some good warm pants now.

I also love wool.
I have an original hooded swandri bushshirt (in green) and think its awesome for kicking around camp extremely warm and comfy. I do find it rather large though, and sometimes a little long - it comes down to my knees, a belt helps with the largeness somewhat. One of the best things about the swandri is the shape of the hood, it comes down over your forehead and it really helps keep it on during windy weather.

I'm going to be making a shorter, more fitted version as soon as I can find a source for some length of decent wool material (anyone care to share a source?), I'll post some pics when I'm done. When I'm finished I'm also going to make a pair of pants, but I'm not sure what fabric to use, maybe wool again, but more of a weaved fabric rather then a felted one.

if you use a lining on the inside and put some canvas overlayers on wear points, the felted type wool will make excellent pants.

Koyote, I hadn't thought of that, that's a good idea. I like to have reinforced knees anyway. I'm looking forward to making them now, trousers are always quite difficult so I had been putting them off for a while :o.
