What's your go-to, do-it-all fixed blade? Camping/Survival/Utility. If you go wilderness camping or if SHTF and you grab only one knife, what knife would that be?

I could never grab one.. I'd grab all and leave those behind as I found them not needed. But probably my BRKT Bravo 1 or ESEE 4 would be the toughest and most useful all-around.

Agreed! Why, under any circumstances, let alone SHTF, would you only grab one knife?

Heck, I have 2 or 3 sharps on me while riding the bus to work, between mutitools and a SAK and assorted odds and ends strewn about my person.

I would probably grab my B.G. Andrews bush crafter in 5/32 O-1 as it's a robust all around use knife with a comfortable working handle in a quality multi carry sheath with firemaking kit, sharpening tool, and 25' of 550 cord attached. I also always have a SAK Farmer in my pocket. If I'm able to grab my murse;), there's always a multi tool in there.--KV

thats the purpose of the thread, you dont have a choice to grab more than one blade. You can have ONLY ONE, what would it be?

Obviously my own SideKick model is my choice; I designed it, have built many, and EDC one at all times except when the law says otherwise. But in terms of only one factory knife for SHTF, I'd grab either my CS Master Hunter or CS Trailmaster, whichever was closest. They're both pretty dang good all-around designs.

Of course I'd rather have both :D

a big knife, a small knife, pocket knife and a sak...but that's pretty much what I carry around every day, so I guess it goes to choice of rotation. ideally i would have a bk9, esee 4, ontario rat 1 and a vic tinker.

I usually have 2 or 3 knives on me at all times also , but IF I had to do with just one , it would be my Scrap Yard Dogfather . Big and tough !

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS !

I have at least 50 fixed blades, ranging from neckers to 18" machetes. Cheap but good stuff and Busses, and stuff in between.
For the last 2 years, on all my short hikes and camping trips, a few courses I took, it's been the Busse SJTAC "Embrace the Suck." This knife is not too big or thick to be unwieldy for smaller chores, and yet long and strong enough to chop and dig with. Every time I go out, I 'weigh' other blades (including other Busses) but the SJTAC always comes. I may add a machete, and I always take a good folder, but the SJTAC is for me the best allround fixed blade. Everything about it is just right.

Becker BK11, BK2 and BK9 are my camp knives . . . Unless I'm light packing I never have just one - too many various tasks in a campsite for one knife. And I alwasy have a couple folders too.

Busse NMFBM, it replaces a machete and ax better than anything I've tried so far.

It doesn't work that way. You will never find just one knife for everything. As you develop more knife skills, you will naturally gravitate towards multiple knives, not pare-down to just one.

After you've been here a while, you'll realize this. Remember that this is a Knife forum, you're talking to thousands+ of "knife people" who collect & use knives. We all have more than one.

Been way too many "Only One Knife" queries posted here already, will be endlessly more after yours.

Well. If some guy is stopping me from getting more than one knife, I'd grab a machete and make him stop stopping me from getting more than one knife.

If some all powerful being was stopping me from getting more than one knife, then my survival would probably be in that all powerful being's hands anyway, and beyond the help of any knife, so I'd probably just grab something that makes me happy, like my Case Red Bone CV Peanut.

well different tools do different things...so "one knife" is just wrong, however in real life if I need a knife outdoors i grab a Mora 99% of the time, and likely have a folder in my pocket as well.

And really, if the SHTF all coolness factors of knives will vanish in a heart beat...yeah i'll have a blade for cutting, but a something is going to be my main concern.
