What's your go-to, do-it-all fixed blade? Camping/Survival/Utility

I think that before a cogent conversation can come of this, SHTF must be clearly defined.

Busse B11 in a baldric rig that I made. It just so happens to also have a CABS and a Muck attached to the rig at all times. There!

My ZKII is a wrecker, and I would love it paired with my SarQ and BAD if it was a "Grab and Drive" situation. But the SarQ is pretty heavy to lug. I might make the wife carry the B11 set up (it is a great size and weight for her too), and I could lug the KZII and Sarq combo.

My bk16 can do anything I personally need a knife for. Now will it do everything some crazy middle of no where kidda guy might do maybe not but for me I could do everything with just my bk16

Clearly I'm way behind the times here...

I used to do a lot of camping and some backpacking. I bought the Spyderco fixed blade on the right of this photo for that, anticipating only light cutting, food prep, etc. I wasn't planning on cutting down trees and such. I always carried a small folder too, back then it was my Gerber LST and later a Benchmade mini-AFCK.

Later on I put my Cold Steel SRK in my camping gear and carried it, but in all the years I carried it I didn't find anything that I couldn't handle with my normal folder.

I don't know what I would use now, I have considered a Becker BK9 just for grins, and maybe a BK17 to go with it for actual camp use. I'll always carry a folder though and I have a range of them to choose from.

If it was "just one," I'd have to go with the B11. Works ok as a machete and can outchop much heavier blades.

The only time I have "one" knife on me is while emptying my pockets before going to bed.

So, I would take my Wenger SAK, ZT 0200, ESEE 6 and Condor Hudson Bay. I usually have one of my Ontario RAT folders on me as well. (The two fixed blades ride in my backpack.)

I would also try mighty hard to sneak out my CS SRK in VG1 as well. It's just so SHINY!!!

I have been using this Tracker/kukri hybrid from Nepal for over a year and it has replaced many of my other knives and kukri. Its small, compact, easy to carry (especially with dangler sheath) and it cuts like a regular knife and chops like a larger kukri. It also has a thick spine and a flat hammer portion on the bend in the spine so I can fix cattle fence or do any hasty hammering while away from tools. I use this knife virtually every day. It is 14" overall with a 9" blade.

Along with my small modified churi, also from Nepal, I would take these two anywhere. (and I do)

I would try to cheat and bring my wave, bk11, and cs recon scout. If I got caught breaking your rule I'd probably cry a little and ditch the bk11 and rs... the wave can do anything except chop or baton...

I'm leaning towards the Black survival knife made in the Checz republic. I can't stop liking this blade.
I also like my own custom Khikri that just works great.

For a time i was all about the Fallkniven f1 and the kabar BK-II V2. Although for finer jobs the f1 is hard to beat
The Black is made from a steel similar to VG-10 but i have made a couple prototypes out of 5160 to see the difference in performance.
The carbon steel is heavier but chops better due to it's edge retention.
My main large tools are the woodsman's pal and or an ox-head axe both hardened and tempered to my liking.
Once you try a properly made custom blade. It is almost impossible to go back to a mass production type

I *really* hope the S never HTF in that fashion because I'll have to do a major pocket dump to get down to just the one special knife. If that ever happens though; if there can really only be the one, for me it will be:

If times are really that bad though, people will have better things to worry about than why I will then EDC my Becker BK9.

I prefer pairs. For my wife it's a Buck 650 Nighthawk and a 102 Woodsman. For me, a Buck 124 Frontiersman and 105 Pathfinder.
