What's your go to wiper blade?

I've tried most of the major brands, but just can't seem to find the one that performs for any extended period of time! I'm guessing you should change them out every other year or so?

I've tried the "expensive" brands and never was really satisfied. Been using whatever the auto parts store sells these days. They usually put them on for me which is why I buy them there. I replace mine when they need it on no regular schedule.

Friend of mine who is a mechanic said that the expensive ones are fine, but if you want the best long term performance, get the regular old store brands and swap them out 2-3 times a year because the rubber or silicone inevitably degrades.

Don't know if that's true, but that was one guy's theory. He thought that a brand new regular blade worked better than a 6 month old expensive one and the cost ended up pretty much was a wash.

Well, looks like my problem is I expect them to last longer, Ha! Guess a thin piece of rubber just gets brittle faster! thanks

I like the Bosch. And change them every fall if not sooner. Rainex on the windshield inbetween seems to help some.

I use the Bosch Evolution blades and Rain-X and would agree with Codger_64 about the Rain-X extending the wiper blade life.

If I can't attribute it directly to the Rainex, then keeping the windshield free of bugs and abrasive grit doesn't hurt. It acts as a lube as well (I wipe it on the wiper blades as with a clean cloth) as it is a hydrophobic silicone polymer. DO NOT use it on inner windows thinking it will keep them fog free. Just don't! It will make fogging much worse!

I bought a set of Rainex Latitude wipers in the spring of 2014. In the past, my wiper blades were usually trashed after the winter season and I've always had to replace them in the spring. These Rainex Latitude wipers held up just fine through the 2014/2015 winter season. They still perform like new 19 months later which is pretty impressive based on my past experience. I'll have to wait and see how they hold up this winter but I'm very satisfied with them. Heck, even if they get trashed this winter I will still feel like I got my money's worth.

I sell Rain-X Latitude wipers at my auto repair shop, been selling them for years and find them to be one of the top wipers available.

I don't think blasting frost off my windshield with Rain X defroster fluid helps their life any. I agree with the theory of changing twice a year with el cheapos. Once before the summer and once before Brrrrrrrr.....

From what I remember, wipers used to last a lot longer. The rubber compounds used these days dry out much faster. Rain-X windshield treatment definitely keeps things cleaner.

Dry out faster, sell more make more money...

I use what's on the rack at the auto store and change when necessary.
I should have changed them before my 130 mile drive in the rain on Wednesday...

Rain-X really works?
Always wondered on that.

Rain-X really works? Yes, if you don't mind a greasy windshield!

I've had good luck with different models of Rain-X blades... We get a wide variety of weather here on the High Desert, and they have held up good.
I am extremely fussy about clean glass and good blades, and I had one set of Rain-X blades make it two full years, and both of those years had long cold winters, with a lot of snow...

I've had really good luck with Napa winter blades on the Kenworth. These get a lot of abuse going over the mountain passes 5 days a week in the winter,
Between the snow and ice, the de-icer they spray on the roads and the cinders they put down, these have held really well.

temp makes a big difference. If your windshield is getting really hot during the day, that can shorten the life, and running the wipers over frost chews the rubber up. I figure a year is good enough, and go for ones that seem reasonable within that timeframe. I've also found that some cars just don't like some wipers. combination to tension from the arm, curve of the window, and air-flow.

RainX treatment works, and actually keeps your windshield cleaner if applied properly. Not greasy at all. The problem is resisting the urge to use your wipers in the rain. It's not recommended and makes them skip. You also have to be going around 15-20 mph for it to bead properly. I started using it in Los Angeles in the late '80's and Phoenix '90's. Solid stuff.
