What's your Grind?

I suck at sharpening as well...with this Wicked Edge....sharpness has become a new world for me. And I love it.

For my bigger knives and my kill devil tomahawk I usually put a convex grind on them because I'm lazy and the worksharp system is fast. Pocket knives I have a v-grind on.

Are we talking the primary grind here, or the edge? That's not clear, and makes a world of difference. It appears some folks are talking about either one or the other.

I don't really have a true favorite when it comes to the primary grind, but I far prefer a convex edge. And that's after many years of using a v-edge.

Good thread.
Does anyone else remember the Hunnicutt rebated flat grind? It's great idea and it works on several levels, meaning, folder and fixed blade.
A customer knife maker is using this grind on his new folder line and it is bonkers.

I prefer convex.

But I am too lazy at the moment to convert all those V-edges to convex. Can take quite long when only using sand paper.

V is sharper in general? If the angle is about the same, the convex will cut better because there is no shoulder.
Or just do the convex in a slightly lower angle, it will cut better and still be tougher than the V-edge in a bigger angle.

Semivex is also interesting. Great for feathersticks

I prefer convex and it can be done in different ways depending on the pressure applied to the belt to get different curvatures. If I hold the knife at 16 degrees with light pressure it becomes what I call an almost V convex and apply more pressure at the same 16 degrees for a more curved convex. The more curved is what I use for choppers. Who knows maybe I am wrong but they all end up sharp.

inwisefool- John Gray.
I hope I can mention his name here. If not, sorry and pleae delete.

I like a hollow or flat ground blade with a v edge. Tried convex and lost patience with it. Guess I'm too set in my ways.

I go with convex. I freehand sharpen all my knives and they all just end up that way. Lol!

Like so many things, "It all depends" Gonna carve wood ? Gonna chop wood with an axe ?

That's like asking what the best transportation or clothing is.

I have a Wicked Edge but barely use it anymore. Spyderco Sharpmaker has never let me down. Or I use a FlexxStrop. Both work great depending on what I'm doing.
