What's your (latest) grail?

I have three I'm on the hunt for. All Fiddleback Forge, each type with a specific color or color combination handle and tapered tang. I also have to like the spalting. They could all come up tomorrow, or may never get made. I could also easily get beat to the punch as some sell in seconds.

I have a feeling it may be years before I pull the trio off.

I've been after a Loveless style chute knife for awhile now, maybe a year and a half. Been having a hard time finding someone to make it for me. Damn 2 year waiting lists!

Reason: It looks so cool!
i know a excellent knife make in Raleigh that can make you the knife, is finish is top notch. and he is reasonable.
his name is Elton Misner of Raleigh, been making knives for 40 years
let me know if you want his info and you can call him direct no middle man

Not necessarily a grail, but my next purchase will likely be a kw exclusive spyderco military with s90v blade and ti/cf handle.

Every knife I buy is my next grail. Some are more expensive than others, but they're all grails.
My latest grail is a ZT0452CF anodized bronze from usamadeblade, man it's a sweet knife. The one before that was the Lion Steel CK01 in M390 steel. All I can say about that one is WOW!!!!!!

If we're excluding production pieces, then this is my most current grail.

This, specifically this Olamic Sheepscliffe, a picture of which I have shamelessly hotlinked from Knifecenter.

If we're including productions (which, given my current financial situation, everything is a grail), then I have an unashamed fascination with the WE Knives Eschaton, pictured below in a screencap from an EpicSnuggleBunny video.

Grimsmo Rask. A certain YouTube reviewer really turned me on to John and Erik, and while I don't like the looks of the Norseman, the Rask looks amazing. I would love to have or even handle one someday, it seems as it would make a great EDC.

Wow, I've wanted a Rockstead Higo X due to it's simple elegance, but damn that Olamic is impressive

My grail would be:

Umnumzaan Insingo with polished flats and hardware
Inkosi front flipper
Wharncliffe-ish Grimsmo Rask with a sharpening choil
MacWasil front flipper hollow ground
Алексей Нестеренко full Ti framelock

The last two are custom, and I am currently trying to persuade the last maker.
Another thing I have been eying is Southard mini Tolk (with milled pockets and a timuscus clip).

First off, YES.... production knives, mid-techs, custom, whatever floats your boat and empties your wallet.

I've been meaning to try a WE knife as well. I keep hearing the fit and finish are great and they have a lot of interesting original designs. That said, I like the look of the one you have your eye on, but it's REALLY close to a CKF Decepticon clone. I like that the end of the handle is bare metal which makes it a little different, and at $300 it's about $700 cheaper than the Russian version, so it's a nice "close enough" buy without going all out and getting a $25 Ali Baba special. But it's a little off-putting that Elijah Isham is saying it's his original design and innovative handle. I like Brous Blades so I have no room to talk, just saying this guy should give credit where credit is due.

Sign me up for a Rask as well. I was on the order form when they were still taking them and I just couldn't pull the trigger. doh!!!! I hope someday they reopen that again. I WILL order one if I have to sell my truck to pay for it.

For some odd reason i want a 'vintage' CQC-7 . Not sure why, i just have the urge to get one, late 90's to early/mid 2000's production. Not too picky on details like blade finish or scale color. A user is fine.

Its probably because i have an 01 mini 7 and want a bigger one of the same age. But that makes no sense. Who cares?

Nevertheless... If anyone has one they want to sell shoot me a PM ;)

images.jpg A full size Wolfgang Loerchner Folding Dagger for less than $15,000.

Wolfe makes knives that DEFINE art, using only files and sandpaper.

The fit and finish is peerless, and his use of inlay material is also extremely fine.

IMO, people are entirely too free with the use of "grail". It's supposed to be ONE or a few maybe, knives that you would basically give a kidney for....not something that you can go out and buy tomorrow at Walmart.

Why does only your interpretation of the term "grail" count? Yeah that's a pretty knife, and I wouldn't refuse it if it was given to me, but I'd sell it as soon as I could. $15k is WAY too much to have invested in an item that just sits there and looks nice. You know you'll never use it. But that's my opinion. MOST of the people on this forum don't have $15k disposable cash so this is an unattainable item; even an unwished for item because of it's impracticality. My point is: just list it. Lots of people make up a world and tolerance starts where you choose. MY grail is NOT your grail and a grail for me is something I can't afford but can still save for and wait for a good deal and maybe add someday. Like I previously said: it's the quest. For me, a $15k knife doesn't exist. I don't believe in it and it might just as well be some conjuring of Merlin.

Post what your heart desires .... complain not.

I didn't invent the word "grail". You can call a car a pachyderm, but that doesn't make it an elephant. Relativism doesn't change a definition, it just makes the person using a word incorrectly "wrong".

I'd use it. Cut meat, open letters, boxes.....be easy enough to repair the finish if necessary.

It's not impractical for those who can afford it. I know makers and collectors who can barely afford to keep the lights on who have granted themselves something on par with a piece like this. It makes them happy. Obviously, it wouldn't make you happy

Not complaining....you are. Seeking to inform.

RE: What's your (latest) grail?

A knife that performs daily/weekly needed functions better than what's in my pocket(s). Well over a year now with more or less same go-to's and spending much less time looking for a new date-chase, as I continue to learn function is more about user adaptation than it is about user acquisition. The job of getting the job done (use of knife) with least effort it the "latest grail".
