Whats your main interest in knives?

I love gadgets that are useful tools ever since I was a little when I got my first pocket knife at the age of 5. I was always whittling and carving wood. I've always loved checking out other people's pocket knives. I'm amazed at how many people don't carry any kind of knife whatsoever, especially men!

I remember a swell old multi-blade Swiss-army type knife that my father had that belonged to my Grandfather... it had cool stag handles and a bunch of different tools and blades on it. I wish I knew what the heck happened to that knife, as I would love to add it to my collection. I keep hoping my mother finds it someday stashed away in a drawer or box somewhere (I've looked for it many times!).

I love old gadgets and tools like knives, compasses (especially the war-time ones!), cigarette lighters, harmonicas--cool stuff like that. I'm always looking for these when I go to antique/flea markets etc... Sometimes I just search eBay looking for these things; sometimes I bid on them, other times I just like to look for them and see what they go for.

I'm currently working on an old harmonica that my aunt gave me that belonged to my uncle--he didn't play it much. Thing has to be 50 years old (an old Hohner Chromonica II Deluxe 12-hole chromatic). I've got it torn to pieces and I'm waiting on some tiny screws and nuts to replace the reed-plate nails to make it easier to re-tune and work on in the future. Lots of fun! Lots of fun playing harmonicas too!

I love stag handled knives the most.

I'm getting into sharpening knives too. Just got myself a Spyderco Sharpmaker--can't wait to try it out (the video really helps!).

I'm even thinking about getting a DIY knife kit and having some fun with that.

Life's too short not to love gadgets--especially knives !

Personally I an a fan of tatical knives and bowies but most of all I like beaters. I like knives that can withstand punishment and will not reduce me to tears if it breaks. At the moment I use my Buck 119 and love it.

I don't have an explanation for it, but I don't have any choice. I see a beautiful knife and I fall in love with it. I am immediately transfixed with a vision of conquering the wilderness and transforming my life into one of simplicity and art with the aid of a legendary blade. I am Tarzan and Arthur at once, only taller. That is what a good knife should be capable of.

Pocket knife-orabilia ! :D

Specifically. . .auto's. . .and. . .and. . .OTF's. . .and. . .and. . .well just about any folder with satin finish and exotic materials ! :D

I got into knives from a childhood love of the exotic adultness of them. After buying a new knife as an adult, I quickly spiraled into a love of metallurgy and sharpening technique. If I had a forge nearby, I'd try that aspect out too. :)

First off, I think PhilL and Bastid really nailed it.

Still, the FIRST thing I look at is the shape of a knife. I love the sculptural aspect combined with the usefulness. Also, I love mechanisms.

What everyone else said, too.... :D

on the heirloom quality thing.

my wife's grandfather recently passed away and I got his cleaver and old rusty schrade.

I am in the process of rehandling the cleaver and cleaning them both up.

he was a great guy with alot of character and I am honoured to have those 2 knives of his. I believe in respecting his tools and passing them on.

I think a knife has that quality to pass on like the japanese family swords. generations.......... there is certain integrity to it all.
