I had a fun little post on W&SS this weekend - asking folks to post their collection pictures. The playful theme was that this is "therapy" for the knife addicted. Here is the thread:

Anyhow, I've been keeping a curious track of how many RatCutlery knives keep popping up. This is an honest survey (sort of) in the sense that I didn't ask people to show their rat cutlery knives - just post their collections. Good data requires a bit of detective work! Now by posting this thread I'm killing the thread's value for this purpose from the time this post comes public.

At the time of this posting I roughly counted 7 users of 33 who posted their collections (I tried to omit people who posted multiple times their own collections). Interesting enough, this ratio stayed pretty consistent as I moved from page to page. In other words, RatCutlery is batting a pretty consistent 20% market share into the collections of W&SS users. I think that is pretty solid given that the company has only been up for a couple of years now. (I didn't include Ontario Rats in my informal survey counts unless an RC product was also pictured in the picture reply).

Interestingly, but again - I wasn't quite serious enough to compute this in a rigorous fashion, that many users who show an RC product actually show multiple RC products. In other words the victims (:D) you guys snared tend to be lifer's.......

The data are up there and people can look at it more carefully than I have. Still there are several good news stories here. 1) RC has made a definite impact on the Wilderness and Survival Skills community - 20% share of peoples collections is nothing to sniff at. This coming from a company that arguably spends a great deal of effort marketing to the tactical community. You guys are doing something right! 2) There is still a large market of rat cutlery virgins for you guys to reach!

You guys will get there, I'm sure of it ;) Keep up the great job RatCutlery, and here is to the success of your great company!

Doesn't really surprise me that much.

RATs are designed by guys who really use the knives outdoors. Also, they're made of good ol' 1095, a long time favorite of the WS&S crew. Add to that a good sheath system out of the box, a reasonable price point and a great warranty and you have a winner.

Since showing up on the W&SS boards more, I've bought my first two RAT knives myself.

I proudly claim status as one of those 'victims' :)

as do I!

Never really thought about it much but Rat Cutlery makes up the lion's share of my FB knives as far as from any one manufacturer., 5/16 are RC knives!

see for you self.., this is most of them, missing a few that I had laying around elsewhere...

I'm one of the "victims" :D The only photo I posted was an older one that didn't have even close to all of my blades in it, one of those not pictured being my Izula. I'm getting a 5 and a 6 this summer.

Between W&SS & RAT forum, causes me to keep me wallet thin, thanks guys !
This is just RAT Cutlery

Also don't forget that the count may be lower than it actually is. I own an RC-4 yet didn't post any pictures in the thread, and I'm sure there are lots more who are too lazy to post up pics.

The RAT Cult is growing very quickly and strongly. The knives sell themselves with such a strong reputation and an unbeatable warranty to boot! They're the perfect all-around knife for the average user so it attracts a very big audience and not just a specialized crowd.

Keep it up RAT! I can't wait to get my hands on an RC-6 and Izula
