Most I'll do is a four-inch blade, but weight isn't that big of an issue. I guess it'd start to become a problem if my pants start to drag a bit, but besides that, I'll take whatever knife fits the bill for the day.
I try to keep the blade below 4 inches just in case I cross into a county that isn't appreciative of longer folders.
Weightwise, anything over 3.5oz is pushing it. I generally carry 2 multitools (2oz max) and a dedicated blade (3.5oz max). That covers my bases pretty well.
It depends, my maximum is generally a 3.5" blade and around 4oz around town
Though I usually carry a 3" blade or just under weighing around 3oz or so
But out in the woods or desert really anything goes!
I sold a Benchmade 710 and a Zero Tolerance 0300 because they were to large and to heavy for EDC, that was before i checked the reviews on Youtube, now i always compare before i buy.
I carry a B/M 610 Rukus (7.7 oz) and a ZT 0300 (over 8 oz) in a belt sheath. In my pocket clipped I like them light. 3 or 4 oz. max. Weight isn't a huge big deal while hiking as a handgun is always the weighty item, I'm carrying.
A Buck 110 was my largest EDC - my BM 610 Rukus is larger - gets some carry, when the 710 stays home. Not much for clips - they come off upon arrival home - my pocket knife carry is in my pocket. I also carried my Buck 419, folding Kalinga Pro in S30V, in it's sheath in my pocket. Interesting knife.
The biggest folders that I regularly carry are a BM 710 and a Strider SnG. Anything bigger than those gets uncomfortable to me.
For a fixed blade, the about the biggest I will go is a Busse Game Warden. Which I don't know the exact specs on, but its shorter that either of the above folders if they are open, and probably comparable wieght.
For pocket EDC I like to stay in the ~3" (+/- 1/4") in blade length and under 5 oz. But it also has to fit well in my front pocket so it needs to be fairly slender in the handle. My current ideal pocket EDC knives are the Kershaw Skyline, Leek and Buck Vantage Pro.
As far as carrying in my EDC backpack, well, I have a ZT0300 and sometimes a CRKT Folding Hissatsu or Spyderco Endura 4. These are largish knives.
For true everyday, everywhere carry around 3 inches and 3 ounces is my preference. For the right knife 4 inches and 4 ounces would be tops. Generally I carry a Victorinox Adventurer SAK which is 3.25 inches and 2.9 ounces.
I like un 5 oz and sub 3" blade. That's more than enough for urban environment. In woods my edc limit is under 5" blade ( anything above that and I'll use a puukko ) and under 8 oz
