whats your office edc?

I am transitioning to probably a Spyderco Caly or Caly 3.5. I may still carry a paramilitary 2 or Stretch. I think pretty knives are less intimidating. I can't wait for the damascus Stretch with blue nishijin handles.

I'm the boss and owner, so I carry wathever I have bought recently, and they have to deal with it. I have edc almost anything but a firegun.
Collapsible baton, bk2, zt 0100, 9 parts wu shu iron wip, zt 0300, benchmade 741, yojimbo 2, as I said, whatever I am trying.
I walk around the office speaking withmy clients at the phone, and while I speak I walk and practice moves, quick draws, etc.

They are used to it.

I have 4 employees full time, two part time, and my wife who is my work partner also.

It's good to be king :D

Knife wise? Primary Victorinox spartan, Victorinox sentinel and whatever else I feel like for the day.
The spartans cork screw is great when untangling cordage, and the sentinel as the dedicated folder works pretty well since the steel is easy to touch up.

Other stiff in the murse..uhmmm...10m of paracord...let's not get into that.

It depends on where you work really I worked in an office where we rarely if ever had a customer or rep in the building so I would carry a Spyderco Endura but if you got customers and reps in all the time I would say something like a SAK or similar style with out a pocket clip and isn't very "scary" looking for a non knife person to see.

I keep my work edc under a 3" blade. I have a slip joint rotation, and occasionally carry a small Sebenza or a mnandi.

I manage a retail store so I work in the office but I am also constantly interacting with customers and there are nearly 50 employees in the store. I have taken to carrying my spyderco resilience since I got it. Not too intimidating but big enough to do real work if necessary. It is clipped to my pocket. I usually carry something bigger clipped discreetly to my cargo pocket on my left side covered by the flap. Recently that has been a CRKT M16-14sf. Sometimes I throw a SAK in the mix.

I have been known to wear a neck knife as well.

I can't justify bringing some of the knives mentioned here to work. It would be complete overkill since 99.9% of what I would need a knife for in my office environment is opening envelopes and/or cutting tape on supply boxes.

However, every office has its own dynamics, so you really have to gauge your environment before making a decision on what to carry.

Get the job first, then worry about what knife you're going to carry LOL.

BTW, I personally alternate between a Boker KeyCom, and a Spyderco mini dyad in mother of pearl.

Forgot to add you should check with your boss to make sure if its alright for you to carry a knife at work some of the places I worked only allowed box cutters at work and only on people who required them in their day to day use.

Take a look at the Chambriard Le Thiers Compact

Schmalhaus you continue to be one of my favorite knife reviewers! Thank you for the history behind this great little knife. Vielen Dank!

I've got a Compact with Norwegian Birch Scales. I hope you don't mind if I post a few pictures.

Here it is with a Spyderco Caly 3 for size comparison:

The grain on the Norwegian Birch is rather intersting:

Like Schmalhaus says, the lines on the knife are beautiful!

I work with a lot of women, and no one seems scared of my knife. A lot of them even said that they thought it was beautiful.

This is my current rotation. SAK plus one of the locking folders... I actually carry my CB Leek more often than the Damascus one pictured here.

After a knife fight on the shop floor a few years ago, my company adopted rather restrictive size limits.
2" max blade length
4 1/2" max opened length.

I carry these:

When I worked at an office, I was he boss. So I carried pretty much whatever I wanted and encouraged others to do the same.

My employees were mostly European and North American girls, most fresh out of college looking for some work experience with NGOs. I think we only had one or two male interns in five years. I had knives shipped to my office all the time, went to an indoor range that was close by during my lunch break (so I had several guns with me), and never had a problem although almost all the girls were in favour of very strict knife and gun laws (if not outright prohibition). I even convinced a couple to come to the range and gave away a few SAKs that got used a lot.

We did a lot of networking with other NGOs an our office (a very relaxed work space, people showed up in flip flops) was usually full of folks who were visiting, working with us on some project or getting some info on volunteering opportunities. If I had to cut something around those people I used the sheepfoot blade on my Case stockman (lovely knife for either urban or rural EDC, it's got a blade for every situation) or a SAK. I guess you just can't beat a SAK for use around people who might be uncomfortable around knives.

Same knives I EDC basically everywhere else. I swap depending on my mood, but really, Kershaw Leek, Blur, OSO Sweet, Clash, Spyderco Native, Delica, Endura, Tenacious, CRKT Ripple, Benchmade Mini-Grip...and so on. I mean yeah, you might not wanna whip out a Cold Steel Rajah 2 or Voyager XL, or take out a Benchmade bali and start twirling it at the office, but barring any specific rules on knife carry, any "standard" EDC-style folder is fine for me.

My "Office" is out in the South Texas brush and I carry many different knives depending on the mood BUT this is the combo I carry most often:

As a general guideline, I totally agree with CRKDMike:

...every office has its own dynamics, so you really have to gauge your environment before making a decision on what to carry.

Get the job first, then worry about what knife you're going to carry LOL.

Especially as a new employee with no track record, you're not going to want people's first impressions of you to be "that young kid who keeps flashing a knife"... Assuming that you end up in a managerial/suit-wearing kind of job, I would steer you away from knives with pocket clips - or at the very least, very subtle (e.g., wire) pocket clips; I would also suggest considering that is either a two-handed opener, or that you at least have the option to open slowly.

What's your budget? I recently picked up an impressively functional and *cheap* Kershaw G-10 Hawk from kershawguy, that (after I removed the clip, in part because its placement sucked) I think is reasonably professional and office-appropriate for under $15 to your door. :) There are also some beautiful suggestions from other posters at a variety of price points - the Le Thiers really caught my eye; can you tell us more about it, Cynic?

Asked as someone who's knife carry habits predate the pocket clip, you do realize clips unscrew don't you?

I have a "de clipped" ZT0301 in my back pocket right now, plus a SAK next to my wallet. What they don't see won't hurt them.

Sorry, I should have been a little more clear about that - although you may notice that I did describe having removed the clip from my Kershaw Hawk... Maybe what I should have said was that I would steer him away from knives that have pocket clips *attached* to them? :)

On Monday-Thursday when I'm actually wearing dress pants I carry several different knives depending on my mood that day. Right now that would be a Buck 309 Companion, GEC #25 Little Jack, Kershaw Baby Boa or a small Opinel. On Fridays when I'm wearing jeans it is whatever I want. Anything from a ZT0350, Paramilitary 2, GEC #66 Calf Roper or Serpentine Jack or a Kershaw Knockout. My favorites are the GEC #25 Little Jack right now anyway and the Paramilitary 2 which has been my favorite modern folder for well over a year now.

My Calf Ropers and Buck 309 Companion

My GEC #25 Little Jack with Ebony Scales

ZT0350. Ignore the BK-2 I definitely do not carry that beast to work lol.
