Jwilliams brought up a really good reminder in another thread, that different folks have different hand shapes/sizes, needs, etc. So not everyone will have the same ideal.

I really, really lucked out and found mine. Jake said he found his (he better answer in this thread too, because I'm really curious now!).

Have you found yours? What is it?

Without being disrespectful to several makers who have made some great blades for me, I will say that I have a few. Offline, I have a better opinion of what I grab ALL the TIME!!!!!!!!

i thought i had found my "one", but then i had a change of heart and went in a completely different direction, and have ended up with a new "one". this time i feel a little bit more secure in my decision.

it is a traditional scandinavian style blade-a woodjewel 10cm carver.

my "one" before was the BRKT Nebula. it was a big, overbuilt bushknife that could handle anything. unfortunately, it is also heavy and the handle, though comfortable in almost all grips, was a compromise in many ways for the sake of versatility.

my new "one" is a smaller, lighter, prettier knife with a scandi grind (slightly convexed in this case). it has a very comfortable (though a bit strangely) shaped handle and a blade that makes me happy. so far it has held up to everything i normally used the Nebula for. i haven't subjected it to heavy batonning though, like i did the Nebula when i first got it. just some light batonning.

Thats what Im saying.....Everyone needs are differant. I HATE Scandi knives, some swear by them, but I like my heavy, overbuilt, but well balanced HWK+!

Good to hear you found the one Simon.

Right now its the fox river, but I just got my MM Bushcrafter, first impressions are it's sharp as heck, but the handle is a tad small. This bladi is super light though, more testing on the way.

i havent found my "one" but i got a pretty good idea of what it should be:
i have a koyote bushcrafter, which is my current favorite and sees the most use, but , in my opinion, convex knives arent "the best".i really like the traditional scandis, with wood handles that arent overly contoured (never really got into the contoured handle thing). sometimes, ive gotten scandis with a cenvex micro bevel, which is not what i am looking for. but i also like a full exposed tang, which most traditional scandis do not have. also, i am a big fan of strait spines. i really dont have any reason why, i just like them much more than any other blade styles. thin steel is also the way to go. 1/8'' or even less with the right heat treat. O1 seems pretty popular right now, but i am not a big fan. it rusts more than it patinas, so i really prefer A2 or L6 or even 1095. sheaths are also a big deal for me. when i first got into the knife thing, i thought that the sheath should be able to carry alot more gear than just a knife. currently i like slim sheath, and only leather will do. no retention strap, just a good fitted sheath. blade finish is another thing. i hate coatings more than one could imagine, but a good forge finish is fine. so, if anyone knows of one of these, let me know :D .

kinda hard to say....i REALLY like hefty, heavy, big blades, they are my go to so to speak.....the other day i used my SAK for some fuzzsticking and it just plain, sucked. I could'nt get any curls, it hurt my hand. Pulled out the big heavy bowie and had a pile of fine shavings in no time.

i dnno, i like all my blades...

I don't have a single uber-knife that satisfies all of my needs, but I'm starting to get an idea of what such a knife might look like.

For the last few weeks, I have been limiting myself to a trio of knives - a modified Delta 5 drop point, a small scandi-ground EDC blade I made from a 'cobbler's knife' from Ragnar's, and a Leatherman Wave.

The Delta 5 gets used for any large hiking chores, including fuzz-sticking, chopping, steel striking, etc. And the little scandi gets used for everything else, including most food prep.

My 'one' knife would probably combine the general shape and handle design of the Delta 5 with the scandi grind from my EDC. Best of both worlds - stout and large enough for a range of tasks, but with a scandi's great slicing edge and ease of sharpening (on my water stones).

But since I don't have that knife, I'll throw my vote in for that Dark-Ops manslayer that j_williams is raving about (in urban camo powder coat, preferably).

All the best,

- Mike

Mine is still being made. At least I hope it's "The One".

If not, then I'm positive the next one will be it!

believe it or not, i have yet to find the "ONE"...:o i do have a few knives that come pretty close to meeting my criteria... Breeden Tyson knife, Gene Ingram #30 and my NWA forum knife, just to name a few...:D

Well I think I have found my "ONE" folder - BladeTech ProHunter Xtreme

I've got a couple more Breedens under the Christmas tree so I will probably be changing my mind next month :D

I really don't think there'll ever be just one, although the Bravo-1 comes close. Actually 2 Bravo-1's come closer.

Hmmm, I wonder if 3 Bravo-1's.........................

Recently...mine has become the BRKT Cumberland Trail. Size, Ergos, Steel, Edge, Handle Shape has worked for me...It's been batoned, Cut fuzz sticks, Cut rope and bailing twine, excelled at meat and veg prep. (except Butternut squash) My only gripe is the sheath...and not a very big gripe it holds the knife just fine...

My dream knife is pretty similar, scandi, 1/8'' L6 or A2, a nice JRE sheath, handle is another thing, I would love to get one unhandled and tweak it.
