What's your point of diminishing returns?

Just to throw in a monkey wrench, have you guys noticed over the years
your point of diminishing returns has gone up? I did for balisongs. Before
I probably would have not paid over 200 for a bali, but now I'm willing to
pay upward of 400 to 450 for a nicely made custom if it meets my specs.
I'm noticing this with folders too.

After using cheaper knives like Smith&Wesson and other Taylor brand knives, moving up to kershaw and spyderco, and on to benchmade, up to a bradley and then off into the deep end for a Sebenza....I can't put anything cheaper in my pocket.

I won't buy a knife that is less than $300 (msrp) now.

And now i'm getting into the custom world where the sky is the limit....

I have a specific list that I am after for collecting purposes. Most of them are BM and Spydies. Each of them are between $100-$200 (except for the Skirmishes). I don't carry or use all of them, so I am really more of a collector. I don't own a Strider or Sebenza yet, but may do so in the future. I do have a few that I carry (right now my Mini-Dejavoo is my favorite). Once I get my collection list complete, I will start to sort which ones to keep, use, and store for my sons.
I used to think $100 for a pocket knife was crazy. I used and carried cheap Gerbers from Wal-Mart. They served their purpose OK, but always got dull really quickly and I ended up bending or breaking many of them. The last one I owned, the pocket clip just fell off. I bought a Benchmade (cheap red class) knife and realized it was much better than what I was carrying. So, I bought a Griptillian and BAM! I was hooked! It was so sharp and fun to play with I had to get more! I now have a nice collection of various Benchmades and Spydies and am working on filling another Dodecapod. I really don't see me ever getting into the Gold Class type of knives since I would never carry it. I try to look at knives I would carry and collect them. The only ones I wouldn't carry would be the full sized Skirmishes. They are more for collecting. I have found an affinity for the small EDC fixed blades lately and am looking at Grahams and Kreins.
