Hi all,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm mostly an "Irish WhiskEy" guy. On a recent trip through NH, I purchased several bottles of
"Irish Whiskey" (since NH has MUCH lower prices than Maine and NH has NO State sales tax). I want to HIGHLY recommend "THE IRISHMAN ORIGINAL CLAN IRISH WHISKEY" which is a lovely lovely lovely tasting Irish Whiskey, especially at it's price point. "The Irishman" is a MIDDLETON Distillery produced Whiskey
(as is JAMESON, POWERS, REDBREAST and a few others). I purchased two bottles of "The Irishman" and I'm really thinking I should travel back to NH and buy several more bottles of "The Irishman" to stash away. I also purchase two bottles of "POWERS SIGNATURE RELEASE" Single Pot Still and a bottle of (one of my favorites) "BUSHMILLS BLACK BUSH" (Bushmills distillery). If you can find it, I HIGHLY
recommend "CONCANNON Irish Whiskey" (COOLEY Distillery) which is (or at least was) a STEAL at under twenty dollars a bottle. I could no longer find "CONCANNON" in NH as it no doubt became quite popular.
Also for your consideration, "CLONTARF 1014" is a VERY nice Whiskey, usually priced under twenty dollars a bottle. I don't discriminate.....I enjoy Irish Whiskey from all THREE of Ireland's Distilleries. What's your Poison ?

Regards,
HARDBALL

I'll have to check it out. Redbreast is my pick of the litter right now, but it's pretty pricey here in Ohio.

Gin. Tanqueray Ten or Tanqueray Rangpur lime are the standards here. I also like Bombay Sapphire as well, but for the high end stuff it's Genevieve, made here in San Francisco from a base malt of wheat/barley/rye.

I don't drink much anymore as I'm getting too old to mistreat my body. But when I do take a nip it's Bushmills (the Protestant whiskey) every time. I like it more than the Black Bush, probably out of habit. The sweet sip, then that silvery glow...there's nothing like it. I think I'll pour myself a wee dram right now.

To quote Tom T. Hall.... "I like beer." I've never developed a taste for any hard liquor. I prefer good German brews.... Must be in my genes.
A good, flavorful red is nice too.... Cabernet or Merlot.

Hi all,

Caseguy.....My my my. Having a wee bit of Irish Whiskey isn't mistreating ones body! It's good medicine lol. Truthfully, I only drink (nay....sip) but a very small amount of Whiskey/Whisky when I do have a dram. The bottles I bought should last me the better part of a year.

Regards,

HARDBALL

Bourbon is my choice. I prefer single barrel made in Kentucky with Woodford Reserve and Blanton's being the two I buy most often.

Hi all,

Ah! We have some Bourbon fans! I haven't had a lot of Bourbon. My first try of Bourbon was kind of SHOCKING!
I was so use to the much more mellow taste/feel of Irish Whiskey I couldn't understand how people drank Bourbon.
Well, since I had a full bottle, I continued to (every other night or so) have a few sips. By the end of the first week, I was REALLY beginning to enjoy the taste of Bourbon. I truly believe it takes time for the Palate & Brain to adjust to new taste/flavors. That and the fact that no doubt once a bottle is opened, it tends to mellow a bit. My first Bourbon was Woodford Reserve (the official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby) and damn good! Oooh, I also cracked open one of my bottles of POWERS SIGNATURE RELEASE Irish Whiskey. Wow! Despite coming from the same Middleton Distillery as The Irishman Irish Whiskey, PSR has a LOT more.....BAM! Good stuff! I think "The Irishman" Irish Whiskey as a Whiskey to drink in polite society being lighter, more mellow, especially suited to new Whiskey drinkers. I have a feeling Bourbon fans might like POWERS SIGNATURE RELEASE.

canadian whisky for me. crown reserve and pendelton 1910 are my two preferred whiskies other than crown XR for special occasions.

I've got a bottle of XR that I've been sipping on for a couple years now. I also like Some of the better tequilas from some of the lesser known distilleries in Mexico.

But usually I'm drinking mixed stuff. My all time favorite up until last month was Long Island Iced Tea. Made right you can hardly even taste all the alcohol it has in it. Last month though, a bartender on the cruise ship that I was on introduced me to Italian Iced Tea. It's made almost the same as Long Island, but you delete half the sweet and sour mix and the splash of cola, and replace it with the same volume of Disarrono. MAN is that good!!

In the summer Sweet Tea is one of our favorite drinks. The recipe I use isn't exact: I "eye" my measurements or mix by "feel"
In a tall glass start with a heavy shot of Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka. Next add a shot of Amaretto and a spoonful of your favorite frozen juice concentrate. Add sweet tea(it's a southern thing) to this, stir until well mixed, then add ice. I sometimes add a twist of lemon or dash of lemon juice to the mix.

I'm a fan of Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 Solera Rum. Learned about this rum while reading the "History of Rum" on my commute into Boston. Worth a taste.

Single malt scotch is the ethanol source of choice, straight up only, please. Particularly partial to Islay whiskies.

Though I'm also partial to Scotch ales, Russian Stouts, and good Porter. I like 'em dark and thick.

I'm more of a beer/ale/cider guy, but I do like a dram on occasion. Very much like a good single malt, but find Irish whiskeys closer to hand in most of the local ginmills that I frequent & I don't usually keep spirits around the house. I finally went through a bottle of Clontarf a little while back. Not bad whiskey & a good price point compared to Tullamore/Jameson. I now have a bottle of The Knot (100 proof) in the kitchen (bought for New Year's shenanigans). It's a little on the sweet side, but the price was decent. Here's a review: http://irishwhiskeyblog.com/2008/10/22/trying-and-tying-the-knot.aspx
