What's your poison ? (1/1/2014)

Real Ale, with the occasional tumbler of single malt, especially Islay. I don't mind wine either though.

No joke, im allergic to most alcohol.

There is few kinds I can drink without swelling and instant headache/hangover.

Any silver or white tequilla, rum, and wheat ales.

Hi all,

It's been six months since I started this thread. Since money/funds are tight (I've been buying waaay too many Knives/Tomahawks etc.) I had to find a less expensive Whiskey. Lucky for me, I am LOVING Bourbon! I've been having a blast searching for THE best'est for the least'est Bourbon. I've bought several "bottom shelf" Bourbons and most aren't half bad. Evan Williams I would say is perhaps the best, least expensive Bourbon I've tried and enjoyed.
However....for a few bucks more....an OUTSTANDING Bourbon (a Wheater) is "Old Weller Special Reserve". A SCREAMING deal well under twenty dollars a bottle. I believe it's about fifteen dollars here in Maine. That being said.....at around the twenty dollar price point....my very favorite is OLD GRAND DAD
(Bonded in Bottle 100 proof). Love it! Other Bourbon's I plan to buy in the future are WILD TURKEY 101, FOUR ROSES, Elijah Craig 12 and a few others.
I don't really see the need to pay thirty dollar a bottle for Bourbon.....at least not often. Enjoy.

Regards,
HARDBALL

Funds are tight here too. I gave up the bourbon and whiskey a few years ago. I hate the generic Coors Lt, Bud Lt, etc. I allow myself the occasional Guinness and that is about it.

Hi gazz,

Good call on the Guinness! I manage to have a few Guinness myself during the Summer months.

Scotch whiskey straight out of the bottle. To add anything to Scotch is only adding insult to it.

Bufford......" To add anything to Scotch is only adding insult to it". YEP! I agree.
I do enjoy Scotch however, I only wish it didn't cost so damn much money. I'm getting really low on my bottle of Oban 14 and bottle of Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch.
Lucky for me, I'm a guy who CAN appreciate (actually like) the budget blend "TEACHERS HIGHLAND CREAM". I think THC is pretty damn good for the money.
Some day when I have a few extra bucks.....I kick it up a bit Scotch wise. Any suggestions ? My Stomach can't seem to handle the really Smokey/Peat Scotch.

Regards,
HARDBALL

If you like the Weller special reserve then you need to try the antique and 12 year (if you can find it). The antique usually runs around $20 here in SC.

Hardball, you are right about the cost, I like to indulge in the single malts, but for the most part I drink main stream brands like Teachers. Try Grants, and for something lighter Whyte & Mackay. J&B rare is fine too

Tonight a Moscow mule with Tito's vodka. I'm a rum guy right now, I like everything from the Kraken and Captain Morgan on the low end to El Dorado 21 Year and Zacapa XO on the top end.

Cheapest swill i can buy. Cheap vodka's like Phillip's and Karkov or beer like Miller's Best Ice or Blatz. Mostly drink MBI the beast. $.43 a can and 5.9% alc. vol. OH yeah. Or screwdrivers with Phillips for the vitamin C.;)

Hi Guys,

Bufford.....Ah! Glad to hear I'm not the only one who drinks THC (Teachers Highland Cream). Truthfully, I thought it pretty damn good! I will however try some of you're suggestions in the future. Thanks. Tonight....Evans Williams Bourbon.
