I know we have more than a few firearms enthusiasts here, so I thought I'd ask what everyone here prefers. I like all sorts, but I have a soft spot for these two. The 1911 was a gift from my fiancée, now wife. The EBR doesn't have same emotional attachment or even charm, but I really enjoy having it for the simple fact that there are those who don't think I shouldn't. I guess I'm getting more contrary and ornery as I get older.

I've been collecting for 50 years so, picking a favorite would be near impossible. However, in a similar class/purpose firearms I'd have to guess it would be my Wilson Mastergrade 1911 on a Colt Series 70 with both comped and un-comped barrels along with an HK-91 with a PSG-1 trigger group, Hensoldt QD scope and other goodies.

I like em all, if it goes bang I want one. I like old stuff, military stuff, weird stuff.

I too am a devout 1911 fan. I don't even really want an AR but just like you, there are those that think I shouldn't have one so I'm looking for one. Had a Colt Match Target but let it go.

I'd like a Wyndham or a Daniel Defense basic simple model. Even pondering a piston driven model so it doesn't get filthy after 10 rounds.

Probably my first love is equally divided between bolt and lever action for rifles, and single action revolvers.

Most say I was born a 100 years too late, I sometimes agree but I'd already be beneath the sod and that thought isn't appealing.

I am also a 1911 fan and gunsmith. It's my favorite pistol platform. Mr. Browning invented a classic ahead of its time. All tilting barrel semi autos owe their existence to the 1911.

I am also a huge Winchester pre64 fan, especially the gorgeous feather weights.

My new Tavor holds a place close to my heart. It's probably the most advanced system out there now.

Windham weapons is the way to go Bawanna. Best bang for the buck. It's the original Bushmaster factory with the original owners and staff. The Bushmaster name was bought by Remington/Freedom group and quality went to crap. They ruined the Marlin name too.

Windham Weapons value can't be beat.

I have a pair that I can't decide between. I own a FM (not FN) Highpower Detective length. It is manufactured in Argentina and was made by the Browning FN employees on Browning FN equipment right after Browning FN sold it all to the Argentine government. The Detective is to the Highpower what the Commander is to the 1911, a 4" barrel on the regular size frame. Just that much easier to conceal but just as effective. And my other favorite is a Ruger SR1911 Commander with Bawanna grips and all Wilson internals. Though if I have to go with most sentimental I can try to swipe hubby's Granddad's WWII 1911. Exactly as he bought it back when Field Grade and General Officers had to purchase their own side arms.

Now if you want to do rifles, I only have one that I care about, my Barrett M82A1 with BORS on a Leupold Mark 4 M1 Scope. Best XLR shooting with that setup is 14 of 15 at 1 mile on a 1MOA steel plate (Just about 18" at that distance) on a moderately windy day.

Note to self, when fleeing an angry Shavru armed with the Barrett, go really really fast and focus on bobbing and weaving erratically.

Mmmmmm Barrett. I am totally going to get a Barrett M107 within the next few years. The ceracoated OD green version with the long barrel. I will just have to keep saving my pennies. I'm gonna go with the complete M107 kit and save the hassle of buying everything seperate. It comes with the BORS and choice of three different scopes depending on the kit you choose.

Get the Leupold 4 M1. There is not a better matched scope for that setup and that is what the BORS was originally programmed for. The other 2 scopes are not issued for Military with the M107 because they didn't come with the original BORS and the programming was redone to support them BUT not as much testing. M107 is the Army designation for Barrett's M82 rifle btw same rifle I have. Funny story how that happened, short version is Army wanted a bolt action originally for the M107. Changed their minds and designated the M82 Semi-Auto as M107 but only as Army nomenclature. Barrett still sells them as M82A1s even to the Army. uNLESS you are talking about the M107A1? Those are a whole NEW toy and one I love. But can't justify the price difference to lose 5 pounds and a few minor changes because I don't use the major change. The fitted suppressor modifications!

My two favorites are the ones I don't own and can't have sadly. My grails if you will, a Colt 1991(I live in California and Colt decided not to renew the gun on the california approved handgun roster) and a Ruger GP100 6in Blued(can't justify the purchase for many reasons :(). *Sigh* They sure are beautiful though, envy any who own them.

I just recently became a gun owner too, but it was on the condition that every gun I purchased have a specific need and use. So far I have a Marlin 795 22lr, S&W SD9VE 9mm, PSA AR-15 223/5.56, and A Savage Axis in .308. Also have a Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm and Maverick 88 12g on layaway. And thinking about buying a Browning Buckmark Camper and Savage bolt action 22lr with my tax return.

All good guns that I really like but man they sure aren't a Colt 1911 or Ruger Revolver. Well grails are grails for a reason I suppose.

I've always said if one wants something badly enough he/she will fine a way. It's always worked for me.

A Colt 1991 shouldn't be that hard if you want it badly enough and my spidey senses say you do.

I like em all, if it goes bang I want one.

Hahaha...I understand what you're saying, but I don't think I'd go that far. That's a whole lot of guns that would need cleaning after a trip to the range.

There are a couple of guns that I want to grab as soon as I set a couple of lowers aside. Both Winchesters, I think I need an 1894 in .30-30 and the Rifleman's Rifle, a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .308.

I enjoy building ARs and continuing to switch out old parts for the latest and greatest. Recently I upgraded to both a longer hand guard rail and keymod.

But if I had to pick to only have one gun and focus all my energy and time getting good at it, it would be my Benelli m4. I practice and shoot this way more than anything else.

SIGs are my poison. I just like them. I also seem to have developed a liking for older military rifles. I really like my M1 Garand, though it is not exactly the premier semi-automatic rifle anymore, and I recently got a Schmidt-Rubin K1911 carbine in quite good condition. The straight-pull bolt action was a large part of the decision. I'm not entirely off the beaten track, but I seem to be heading that way. Favorite style of knife is the kukri, I own a bolt-action like most gun owners, but it's a bolt-action unlike all others, I don't have an iPhone... heading off the beaten path or track or whatever it is people say. I ought to know, I do some fiction writing, but it is past midnight.

my favourite firearm was and is my .45acp colt mk IV series 70, with pachmayer grips, sadly residing with my family back home in the states. they won't let her come over here for a visit.

Those K31's are real sleepers. The world record open site rifle shot was set back in May with one at 2240 yards and the rifle was bone stock. Most turn their nose up at them. Did you check under the butt plate to see if the tag with the original Swiss issuees' information is under it? All the ones I have, have had them. Some new owners have found their originals and contacted them. They make for some interesting stories. I'm partial to Sigs as well. For those that believe a 9mm can't be a good target gun, have never shot a Sig 210. I have a couple that are on par with some of my favorite Bullseye target pistols that I've used in competition. Both made in the 50's, they keep up with my S&W 52 and Colt mid-range .38 Special target guns. The Clark long heavy slide .38 Special is another story.

I was referring to the M107A1... The factory suppressor is super cool and the full kit has everything you would possible need included spare parts. I found the kit in OD green for $13,500. I am aware that the M82a1 is basically the same gun. I can get one of those for around $8,500 with a Leupold, but no BORS. You might be right in saying I would be better off going with the M82a1 and just getting the BORS separately. I will definitely reach out to you when I am ready to make the purchase. Hopefully you will still be around in a couple years. I plan on getting it by the beginning of 2017. Just need to save a few more pennies. I hate putting things on plastic and prefer to just pay cash for it and not have to worry about payments. I am about 65% the way there is I go the M82a1 route. Thanks for the information Shav!

MMMMM PSG-1 trigger group. It cost more than some rifles lol. I had a Springfield armory SAR-8 version of the HK91. It was made by EBO in Greece using the same tooling as HK. Greece makes the 2nd best HK's besides the Obendorf factory in Germany which turns out the best.
That SAR-8 would shoot under 1 MOA all day long with good match ammo. I installed a Swiss B&T mount on mine and used a older original Redfield Ultimate Illuminator on it. I kick myself in the butt for selling some of my toys. I have since kept most of the stuff and just saved for new guns instead of trading in old ones. Hensoldt makes great optics. I had a fixed 4x for years but sold that as well lol.

I had and Obendorf HK SL8 for years but sold it after I converted it to a G36. The .308 HK series have always been one of my favorites even though its dated technology. Moparsbob is also a big HK91 guy like us :D

Oh yes... those straight pull swiss guns are super accurate and smooth as glass. Very nice rigs guys.

The things they did to improve the M107A1 are definitely worthwhile if you can afford the $3500ish difference in price. The little details like the new BCG and the hardened rails the Bolt carrier rides on and the way the weight is balanced better are all significant if you are starting from scratch and can justify the difference. At this point I was saying the differences in the 107A1 isn't enough for ME to justify based on buying a new rifle over what I already have, as I wouldn't use the suppressor often if at all and the other details while nice aren't worth the difference in price to me. But someone that will shoot many thousands of rounds definitely might use up the M82 where the 107a1 won't wear out as quickly. But multiple thousands of .50 cal rounds is pretty expensive shooting just in components if you reload, forget buying manufactured ammo. btw BORs sells for about $1200-$1500ish depending on location usually around $1300. So adding it to the M82A1 kit still keeps you about $10K. now for the other $3500 you do get some really nice improvements in the 107A1 making an incredible rifle even better. You just need to determine if they are things worth that much to you and the way/frequency you intend to shoot. I know whichever one you get, you are going to get a rifle that will serve you well the rest of your life and provide you with a rifle that will allow you to take control of your environment out a long long ways. :)

I does dig a 1911-built this one back in the early 90's when i worked at Out-of-Ordnance in West Hurley

It's had about 10K through it, and is on it's third finish...but pretty much all i shoot now is my G19.
