Whats your preference: Regular or 21

So I recieved my first large regular today thanks to a member here and I really like it.
It seems the design is even more simplistic then that to the 21/classic and made to be
used. I prefer the blade shape on the regular with its nice sweep and I just like the
looks of it more. Opening the blade seems a little easier also and Im guessing its
because the detent hole doesn't go all the way through the blade like the 21.
The 21 design is a more refined look and is very visualy appealing.
I do prefer the handle on the 21 as it is a little more comfortable to open and close.
Both knives are great in their own right but which one of the two do you prefer?
If both knives were in production right now would you buy the reg or the 21/classic?

Beautiful knife...

Regular all the way. Right away I didn't care for the scalloped ridges by the cutout but now I think they are pretty sexy. Especially after handling them both, the regular takes the cake.

The following are the reasons:

1. Blade shape is more appealing, more belly not so pointy looking.
2. I like how on the regular the end of the knife by the jimping doesn't stick out as bad opposed to the 21.
3. Handle shape, it has more of a curvy handle which to me feels better in my hand.
4. Opening is much smoother, probably partly due to the detent nick instead of hole which you pointed out.
5. Closing is smoother, between the small 21 and small reg there is a big difference, not exactly sure why, but the reg feels silky
6. I like the old style screws where only one side had the allen head, and I like it the way it came with the smooth side on the back, locking side, it's pretty classy.

Overall I find the Regular version is my all time favorite knife, with the small edging out the large just because even though it's considered a small, it can do anything I want it to do in a perfect fit to my hand, it's like an extension of my own hand.

I do think that the 21 and classics have their appeal, but to me I think the Regular is what the Sebenza is all about, simple and effective.

I really hope that CRK stages a Regular come back somewhere down the road so I don't have to feel so bad trying to stockpile them right now, lol.

Hmm. It is a toss up. I don't own either so I can't say from personal experience but from an asthetics POV, I would go with the 21. However, in agreement with the first two posts, I too love the blade shape on the regular. Any chance we would see a version with regular blade and 21 body? Or stylistically there is no match there? Even better might be a new generation combining the better attributes of both and possibly a handle design in between that of the 21 and the regular.)
 
regular as well.

-more belly on the blade.
-convexed rather than concaved scale spines.
-overall, just cleaner lines, at least to my eyes.

don't dislike the 21 or classic, just prefer the regular.
 
I am a regular guy too, IMO there is just no contest. :):thumbup:
 
I love my Large Regular Seb.....and now, after seeing your new Sebbie, I've made up my mind to switch out my single blue lug for double silver lugs when I send her in for the spa treatment. :D

I prefer the Regular mainly because of the scalloping on the handle....making grip retention much easier for me. And now that I've come to find that the Regular has been discontinued(had been away from the forums for a while), I have even more reason why I'm never letting go of mine....
 
sadly, regular.
The overall design of the regular looks a lot more saturated than the classic/21 design.
regular is modest and classy, classic/21 is somewhat aggresive.

I prefer the 21's, the Regulars felt weird in the hand, and the scallops were generally uncomfortable and borderline painful on the inside of my knuckles when I gripped the knife hard.
 
I've had a bunch of both styles in both sizes (also in BG42 & S30V). My preference is for an S30V micarta classic/21. It's easier for me to open, the blade profile works fine for me, and it's more comfortable in my hand. I recently traded my last smal micarta 21 to a guy on BF for his small regular. A couple of weeks later, I traded his small regular back to him for my small 21. Just couldn't get used to using the regular after the micarta 21.
 
Easy IMO. I strongly prefer the original/Classic/21 style to the Regular. The lockbar access is much better. Everything else is at least slightly secondary. YMMV, obviously.
 
I prefer the 21, but not by much. Either way I don't think you can go wrong, but the 21 is more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion and I like the feel of the 21 much better.
 
21 for me. Aesthetics are more appealing, and I never found the scallops to be comfortable.
 
First off congrats on your first Regular. I thought I prefered the Regular more but the more I use my Large Micarta I start to understand just how good the design is, so i'm officially torn.

As far as looks alone go, i'd lean more towards the Large Regular. Functionally it goes to the 21.


Looks like i'm going to have to pick up more Classic/21's.:D
 
I like both but prefer the Regular. Would buy another one if Chris re-introduced the Regular ;-)
 
The only real reason - this is IMHO - for a regular is that that's where the BG-42 blades are :D :thumbup: and I'll put up with the ergos of the regular to get the blade.
 
The blade shape and action on the regular puts it over the top for me, but I will say that the handle ergo's are better on 21. Something about pre-2000 Regulars just sings to me though - I had to bring this one with me to work today..

I only have one Sebenza, a large Regular. It's the only one I need, or want. Although I will grab one of the rare flat ground versions if the opportunity ever presents itself.

I prefer the 21 for the Large and Regular for the Small.

Large 21 is my all time favorite though.
[FOR ME]
-Feels better in the hand [not a huge fan of all the ridges]
-Easier to disengage lock with the C cut out
-I find the 21's blade shape to be more appealing
-I like how the blade is more hidden into the handle when closed vs. the Regular
-Overall aesthetics look cleaner imo [when both knives are closed the 21 looks much prettier]
-The way the 21's handle tapers narrower towards the blade makes it less likely for the knife to be freed from my hand.

Given all that if I only had the choice of a Lg Reg I would take it and I do currently own and carry one in the rotation. :D
