what's your reason for a knife addiction?

i recently started getting into the world of knives. well actually i have always had a liking to knives ever since i was a kid. i used to go to the local flea market and buy those "made in china" knives for like $5. but now being older and having a larger budget, i seem to be getting addicted to knives. people have asked me why i like knives so much and honestly i can't give them an immediate response. besides being very versatile and usable in everyday life, i am really attracted to the beauty of them. so what do all of you say when someone asks you why are you a knife nut?
 
My knife addiction replaces my drug and porn addiction. On one hand its cheaper and legal (ok, maybe not cheaper), and on the other hand it doesn't piss my girlfriend off as much ;)


But truthfully... I've always had a SAK on my key chain until one day one of the scales broke. I went without a pocket knife for a while until my girlfriend bought me a spyderco dragonfly (ss) and cricket (ss) (since then my GF has taken the cricket as her own). One of the main things that keeps me interested in knives is that there is so much to learn about them and there are so many styles and designs. Right now, Im pretty interested in slip joints. I like the traditional looks.
 
Time spent handling knives is like therapy for the mind. Enjoying it's look, feel & heft is calming..as you imagine using it on some far off adventure outdoors.
Studying websites for deals & designs & advice..what's NOT to like?
Keeps you outta bars & strip-clubs too.
 
Old enough to get a real knife, does that counts?

I guess I still have a boy inside.

I love knives , why?　 I don't know:D
Nobody asked me that question because nobody knows!
Why I have to share my feelings with people who can not understand me;)
or who don 't know f.... all about knives:confused:
Beware how you response to the people or friends:mad:

Why do people drink alcohal, do drugs, have sex, fall in love, watch TV, eat junk food, go to church etc...

Some of these things are harmful, others are not, but there are different strokes for different folks.

Why do I like knives? I dunno. Why do some people like That 70's Show?
 
Do I have to have a reason? I dunno, I LOVE knives. Does there need to be more than that? To me, knives are like, for lack of a better description: useable art. I am awed by the craftsmanship that goes into making them. Did I mention, I LOVE knives?!

It's because the lady that fed us when we where little kids used them and they bring back fond memories. Thanks mom!
 
I like knives because I love challenge. And what can be more challenging than searching for that ideal knife? Well, actually I can come up with few things, but you get the point. I also love using my knives outdoors, that's how it all started:)
 
I think it's genetic. My grandfather always had a shoebox full of pocket knives. I've taken it a step farther though, I have a steamer trunk. :D

Well for me it started as something to tied over my addiction to firearms, but as the knife addiction grew I realized that its just as expensive. So really Im finacially screwed. :( PGH~
 
a knife can be a tool or weapon. All men love both, it is our nature, it comes from time when we were hunters,but some men do not know about this yet
 
I just enjoy collecting and sharpening knives. Some people collect stamps which is the ultimate in a boring hobby to me. I can't figure out why they do it.

Here are conventional reasons for those NKPs inquiring minds.
1. Knives in restaurants are always dull.
2. My grand kids are always needing their toys cut out of blister packs or the pull ties cut off so they can play with them.
3. Working in QC I have to cut plastic banding and open cardboard boxes to sample parts at work.
4. I often miss a spot when I shave so I need a knife to shave the embarrassing spot when I notice it during the day.
5. On the odd chance I happened upon a wreck and someone was trapped by a seatbelt I could cut it and get them out.
6. I hunt, camp and fish so I habitually carry a blade. It is better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have one.
 
in fact, I feel i have a dick too small, so i compensate having knives:p !

But i collect only folders.. blade max size is 3.4"
all the other forumite collects machete, kikuri, etc...;)
i am wondering why....

PS: honestly, my grandfather give me a knife when i was 8...
Since i always carry one.
 
All I need is one fixed, one folder and one SAK or multitool, and thats just for fishing and camping, which I haven't done for a couple weeks.

I've got a lot more than that. I just like em.
