what's your top 3 slipjoints

With all the beautiful knives I've seen on this forum, this should be an interesting thread.

My third pick is this GEC Elk Horn Muskrat just because it's so doggone pretty.

That muscrat is beautiful! It is just so clean.

My number 1 and 2 are my GEC #48 single bladed trapper in Snakewood and my Canal Street Cutlery Half Moon Trapper in Smooth Sunset Bone. I can't choose a 3rd from my collection as there are too many that can easily fill that spot.

Scagel fruit port (smooth bone)
Gec toothpic (red bone)
Gec single blade jack ( stag)

1. GEC Northfield #66 BJM Moose Blood Red Jigged Bone
2. Schatt & Morgan Ebony Harness Jack
3. Schrade 899 Stockman

My three favorites are as follows, and in no particular order.
Queen Mountain Man (even though mine locks)
Case chestnut bone CV trapper
Tie for 3rd place: Tidioute toothpick in purple Italian-jigged bone, and 2009 BFC Barlow (Queen, Stag, D2)

Case XX 6292 "Texas Jack". Note that the scale on the shield side is brown while the scale on the back side is black.

Christian, whenever you post that Ohta I get more and more tempted to order one!

Stop fighting it Rob. You only live once.

I'd suggest waiting for the right one. Before I bought this Ohta I had looked at several pictures of his knives. They were all obviously well built, but none really spoke to me. Then I saw this one and it was lust at first sight. I had to have it. Everything was just right -- the size, blade shape, and gorgeous stag. I placed the order that moment as I didn't want to risk someone else getting it. I haven't regretted that decision one bit. It was an expensive knife, there's no denying that, but I've never felt that it wasn't worth it.

kamagong, tell me more about that sodbuster. it is absolutely beautiful.

Thanks Sam. That knife is a custom sodbuster, with Case antique bone scales. It was made by Kerry Hampton, one of our fellow forum members.

You haven't been married long enough to find out how unpleasant life can become.

I look at them on various websites every couple weeks or so, I'll probably bite the bullet sometime this summer.

It's not a sodbuster, it's a KNnutbuster! ;)

One in stag: John Howser Stainless Damascus Lockback Trapper
(Technically not a slipjoint, but my favorite traditional, nonetheless!)

Shing traditional spearpoint black micarta

Northwoods Scagel #11 stag

Northwoods Hawbaker muskrat

erm.... still not right

Gene Ingram small sodbuster black micarta

Fight'n Rooster greenbone trapper

Fontenille pataud laguiole in ebony, brass and 12C27

naaah ... that's not it either

right ....

1. Teardrop- made by Brent Cramer w/ carbon fiber handles.
2. Canoe- Queen, Cozy Glen w/ red bone.
3. Harness Knife, Schatt & Morgan w/ smooth harvest bone.

As far as the harness knife, there are several style knives that I like that have the harness blades with them. One of my teardrops has a harness blade on it and I like it doubly.
