in the short time ive been here ive heard quite a few different opinions on weight, personally i like my knives to have a little bit of heft, usually above 3 ounces unless its especially small what are your weight limits?:confused:

I don't generally put weight limits on knives. I've heard a couple people talk about their 4 ounce limit and such. Most of the weight comes from stainless steel liners and such. I've got a M21 that is really heavy. Heavy blade, fully liners, etc. But it does make an excellent camp knife.

I generally aim for somewhere in the 3.5-5.5 ounce range. As long as the knife doesn't feel heavy in a cheap way, I'm fine with it. :)

He's reviews are straight to the point, but he talks about ounces like it's actually going to kill your pocket to have a 6 ounce folder. :)

ntnfancy also thinks his knives are weapons... IMO I'd use a gun, not a knife...
Uhh, he says he carries a gun with him like all the time haha.
Really I have no weight limit on anything I carry, though I try not to carry things that are big and bulky.

Well, I guess if the weight of the knife was brusing my leg or causing soreness from lifting it from my pocket, that'd be my limit. Luckily, there aren't many knives that heavy.

For me I usually don't care because I prefer larger knives with a little heft so I know that it's there. I'd say the cut-off would be something unreasonable like 9 oz. If it's actually a big inconvenience then I won't even bother to purchase it. I believe the heaviest folder that I've carried on my front pocket was my ZT 0301 which is 8.6 oz. Right now it's my Large Sebenza 21 which is 4.7 oz.

ZT 030x or less ;)

But remember the adage about the similarities between mopeds and heavy ones - They're both fun to ride until your friends catch you on one . . .

I prefer the "small big knives" like the byrd robin or spyderco d-fly. They weight 2-2.5 ozs. But I live in a big city where anything larger scares people. Plus the knife laws are very strict.

My CRKT Lightfoot M1 is a bit too heavy for me to carry comfortably. It stays home and often gets replaced by a lighter/less bulky knife. Maybe it has something to do with the thickness of the handle because my Benchmade Pinnacle is probably in the same weight range, but is much slimmer and gets carried more often.

weight has never been a consideration for me, anyways, i feel like i have better control over a heavy knife

To each his own of course, but I prefer a knife that is not unnecessarily heavy. In other words, if there is extra material that does not contribute to better function, take it off. I carry so much stuff that the extra ounces add up. I kind of feel naked these days unless I have my cell phone, gun, knife, sheeple knife, flashlight, set of keys (usually I carry a backup set in case I'm out somewhere and the battery in my car alarm remote decides to die--had that happen once). Lots of gun experts will tell you that if you think you need one gun, you need a backup gun too. Not to mention wallet, pen, & change of course.

A good solid framelock folder w/ 4" blade need weigh only 4.0 oz, even less for a liner lock. Most knives weigh a good 20% more than they need to. My EDC has 3 3/8" blade and weighs about 3.7 oz. It really should be in the 3.2 oz range.

I really like to have my folders to at least weigh in at 6 ounces, but 7 or above is nicer. I would think that 9 to 10 ounces would be the upper limit. I regularly carry my Strider AR which is at 8.6 ounces, and have no troubles with my pockets!

If it pulls down my pants its too heavy, and I always were a belt so that is not very likely. Heck I used to put my mini-rukus in the pocket of my pajamas.

And yet he still thinks that way about his knives--that's my point ;)
