When Animals Attack! Anyone?

I was in a valley full of willows. You know the kind I am talking about. It’s a maze in there. I was drifting a fly on the inside bend of a small river. It is probably 12-15 feet across and 3 to 4 feet deep. There is a bank on the other side that is about 3 feet above the water. As I was saying I was drifting this fly. I looked up just in time to see a little cow moose walk out of the willows. She lets out a beeet and walks back in. I thought she was probably old enough to be on her own but I keep my eyes open for momma. I look back a minute latter to see a bull moose looking at me. He charged at me to the edge of the river and stops. I am not sure if the little cliff and river got him to stop or if he was just giving me a bluff charge. He made a lot of noise and lots of dust. The rut hadn’t started yet and he was still in velvet… I guess he was just looking around.

...the little 10' jonboat...the kind that has around 3" of water to the top of the sides...this huge 14' or so gator...what might have happened had I given him a "Dixie Head Slap".

If you ever decide to do this, be sure to say something memorable first like... "Heh! Hold my beer and watch this!"

Codger 64,

Yep, many a "neck" would be more than proud to say those words. Me, I am through with gators. I had another experience with one up-river some 20 years later after I had become a river rat. I was fishing by myself and spyed a promising spot saying I would fish it on my way back down. Well later that afternoon I was back looking for a place to tie up or anchor when I looked down into the bottom of the boat to see if my tie off line was good to go.
Well when I looked back at the river there was what looked like a 10' gator at arm's length away from my face. What scared me the most was the very black, cold eye that looked as he was going to lunge at me any second. All I had on was a pair of shorts and shoes, so to him I might have been a nice change of diet, no hair to speak of. Man it scared me so bad that I hollered out loud, hit the gas full throttle and turn the stick (stick steering) so that the propeller would get him. It did, but I was still so shook up I couldn't fish anymore. And for all you gator lovers out there, no I did not kill him, I saw him plenty of times after that.
