When buying a new blade, what's your criteria?

More and more I find myself drawn to certain makers, then I'll see if they have a design I like. If not, I may ask if they'll consider making one. Price does come into play, but if it's really something I'm after, I'll find a way to get it. The primary criteria for me is "Will I use the knife." The focus of my collection is drop point hunters, and I want to be able to take any of them out in the field with me and experience what I think is the true joy of customs. When I actually use a really good knife for what it was intended, it reaffirms why I love this stuff so much. Therefore I try to stay away from knives that either just look good OR look too good to use. Of course, I do have some pretty hunters, but they too go hunting with me. I'm just really, really careful with them!

Oh yeah-
I'm also pretty picky about steel type, handle material, sheath quality, and steel finish.
Making time or waiting time is a non-issue with me; like I said, if I really want it, I'll do what it takes to get it. If that means waiting for a year or two, so be it. I should mention that a year ago if you'd have told me I'd be waiting over a year for a knife, I'd have said you were crazy and bought something else. But with time comes perspective (and lots of knives!!).
The best advice I can give you is GET OUT NOW, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
OK, I gotta run downtown and give blood so I can get that new Hossum paid off..

Hmm...

A) Design/tradition

B) Who made it

C) Functionality

D) Aesthetics

E) The number of atom-sized elves on the hammer face who magically enchanted the blade while forging

F) Type of mouthwash the maker used

G) Position of the moon when it was made

H) How many blondes it takes to screw in a lightbulb

I) Price, usually at this stage I shrug and say "oh well" since I can't afford squat.
