When did production of the 500 Duke stop?

I just realised that one of my 500's has the anvil stamp for 2002, but they don't show up in the 2002 catalog. 2001 is the last time I see it in one.

Were they still made in 2002 and just not put in the catalog?

We still make some every year. Mostly now it is just used for Eagle Scout awards. Just not in the catalog anymore.

I understand that, I have some recent specials. I meant when they were discontinued as a production model.:)

Dave,

The anvil stamp is used for many buck custom knives. So the anvil is not always for the year "02" making it hard to determine what year many of the custom knives were made:(

Yeah, I have a bunch of LE's that have the anvil stamp, but they all have "custom" under the anvil. This 500 is marked just with Buck, (anvil) and U.S.A.. It's marked just like other models I have from 2002.

It's just like the other plain 500's I have, sure nothing custom looking about it.:)

I just looked at the dealer price list for 2002 and they are still in it, just not listed or shown in the catalog for that year.

Ok Dave,

How about a photo? I have an Elk handled 500 that is part of a special order of 200 knives. The issue # is 500SP3 and it was made in "04" and has the anvil stamp with no "custom" stamp and no year mark on the blade.

Take a look at the attached scan. The second from the bottom was made in "04" as a special order knife. The third from the bottom was a reg production knife from "02". It looks like "02" was the last year the Duke 500 was a reg prodution knife.

NICE 500s.... ....

Perfect jb, the one I'm talking about appears to be identical to the third one down in your picture.

Great bunch there, I need to get some of mine out today for a family portrait. Thanks for sharing.

"family portrait" I will steal that phrase the next time I have some of mine out to take a photo and my wife walks in and ask what are you doing.

Here's mine.

Dave,

Go back and look at the "02" dealers catalog. I see that they moved the Duke 500 to the hunting section of this catalog with the 110 & 112? not sure why, as the pages above that have the rest of the family...501, 503, & 505 in the everyday section!

:foot: Yikes, that's why I missed seeing it. I just assumed that it would be with the rest of the family and never thought to look elsewhere.

Help me pull my foot out of my mouth!

Awful purdy for a huntin knife but I'm sure it would do the job as well as any folder:thumbup: Figgerin on taking my Alpha rosie this year, maybe the Duke can go along for the ride.

:D The only thing I hunt is more Buck's (knives that is).;)

PBD, ITE, Fritz,

Nice Duke's guys. thanks for the photo's.

The Duke 500 is one of my all time favorite Buck models. I currently have over 30 of them in my accumulation of bucks. Only two of those are regular production knives, all the rest are limited editions or special order editions.
