When did they make this no-number trapper?

Hi,

Any idea when they made this trapper? It doesn't have a model number or a shield. The scales are jigged bone. The blade etch says "Schrade Super Sharp."

I just pulled my TRT-96 out of the box and it matches your knife. There is no date on the paperwork, my guess is post 1985.

They were made for Walmart, From what I remember they came out circa 2000/2001.

They are nice knives! I bought one off ebay that had the second blade snapped off at the tang. Got someone to remove it and make it a single blade knife. Cost me some handle material.

Didn't realize they were made that close to Schrade closing the doors. Thanks Larry!

Irv - thanks for the info. Was that product sheet from Walmart or from Schrade? If the knife was new for 2003 and Schrade shutdown in 2004 I guess that means that it was sold for only one year or until the stocks ran out.

It is an Imperial Schrade internal production new product sheet. Here is a picture of the TRT96 with the blade etch and special box:

These are nice knives. Since I have not been able to work in the shop I decided to rearrange my collection & get it better organized.
I found that I have a TN River Trapper as well.
I actually found a bunch of knives that I didn't even know I had. :o

Well made knife.

MW..
No worry I've been called irv since I started here.. Didnt know so many of us were hard of seeing :D

I picked up this Tennessee River Trapper of ebay dirt cheap, like $5, because the second blade was snapped off at the tang. I sent it off to Bob Picklesimer and he removed the second blade and put it back together. I rather like it this way.:D

Nice one Dave! And good repair on the knife by Bob. It makes a handy pocket package for EDC with the slimmer profile, I bet. As much as I like the features of my own EDC, an 897UH, I find I seldom need more than that one Turkish clip blade. I have a handfull of the 897UH's with assorted ailments, so maybe I'll consider having one of them reworked like that. Maybe even with bone covers!

Michael,
That's actually a pretty good idea! Never really thought of removing a blade for any reason other than it being broken, but why not? I also like a slimmer profile single blade knife, which is why I normally edc the LB3. If you like that one blade, go for it! But let's see it when it's done, especially of you go with the bone handles.

I like the single blade Trapper Dave, seemed to work out just right.

Pictured on the left is an assembled TRT96 although thats about it, no hafting, blades not sharpened, rough around the frame, dull bolsters. looks like it was discarded as the center pin has been broken during manufacture. Don't often get to see knives in an unfinished state.

The single blade trappers are nice, or the stockman. In this case the liner lock is a nice feature too. Kind of a crappy late night indoor picture.

Dave, your example has extraordinary nice color on the bone handles.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but since trappers are involved I thought I'd show some that are a little different from the norm and get an opinion or two, if you please.

All are marked Schrade + and all are marked LTD. The jigged bone has a shield but the other two smooth bone have no sheild at all. Of the two with the serrated spey blade, one has pinched bolsters and the other not. I got them all from eBay several years ago and bought them because they seemed to be different. They are all new, mint condition, and to clear the air I am not offering them nor trying to sell them. Almost every one of you guys knows more than I do so if you can tell me anything about these three I'd appreciate it. thanks

Nice trappers Paul! :thumbup::thumbup:

BTW- I sure like that sheath you did for me!
