When Did Truck Drivers Quit Carrying Pocket Knives ?

I'm guessing you're a union shop, and you and your dock workers, who's job is to load and unload freight don't do their job, and don't have to worry about being fired for not doing your job.

I am a truck driver. My job is to pick up and deliver your freight. It is not my job to load or unload your freight.
Refuse the freight because you and your crew do not want to do your job? Fine by me. I'll return it to the shipper, get paid double for the return trip, and you can explain to your supervisors and above, and to the shipper, why you refused to do your job. Sounds like YOU are the lazy arses, not the truck driver, who may have driven non-stop (other than a. 30 minute break, as required by DOT) for 9 or more hours to get to your location at the appointed time.

BYW, a truck driver has limited hours he or she can legally work. We have a 14 hour clock. We can legally work 14 hours in a 24 hour period. Out of that 14 hours, we can legally drive 11 hours. Our combined on-duty not driving and driving time cannot exceed 14 consecutive hours in any 24 hour period, it is quite possible that if the driver has to do your job and unload the truck, depending on how long it takes, he or she may not have the time to legally move the truck from your dock, or to leave your property, without doing a ten hour reset, which resets their 14 hour and 11 hour clocks.

I know many truckers and worked at a freight foward company (warehouse shipping) for many years.
when I delivered freight as the operation manager and drove with the trucker, WE loaded and unloaded.
In my experience, it's the trucker who loads and unloads. Except for airline warehouses, they always help out and say 'I got you'.
Maybe your company makes enough revenue to be able to say 'our drivers don't load and unload'. Which is strange.

In the restaurant world, truckers always unload our merchandise, it's a given.

I don't know that they did, the one I ran into at a local gunshop was buying a desert eagle 50 cal. I asked him why such a big gun and he said if he wanted to get someone's attention on the road hanging this out the window should do it. :D

I hope that "driver" became a "former driver" before he left your property, and got to sober up in the jail. I have less than zero pity for drunks operating anything with wheels, including roller skates or a bicycle.
Local deliveries might be different from what I do. 99.9% of the freight I haul is "no touch", to industrial facilities.

I worked at a flooring company for 17 years and we got two semi-trailer loads a week of carpet plus numerous local deliveries. The trucks were always unloaded by our warehouse personnel. As a rule, the truck drivers mostly used the time to wash up and have a cup of coffee. Nothing wrong with that; most often they were coming from North Carolina and deserved a break.

Where I worked the office staff always asked me to do the cutting....when I asked why me all the time....woman clerk replied .cause we know you always have a knife! Speaking of ranting.....DO NOT let anyone know you can sharpen a knife!! Boss had a dull SAK & asked if I could sharpen it.I said yes & did so,then then asked if I would sharpen couple of kitchen knives for him...I said ok bring them to work.Boy did I get taken....he brought EVERY kitchen knife he had...all were dull(he had $$$ but every one of these were made in China, crap knives)! Ok....figured he got me & I told him..shapening service is now closed...forever!!

The only truck driver I know carries some sort of cheap Gerber. Not what I would go with, but it's something.
