When did you realize you're an addict?

Ebb, I never told her I bought a computer either.

Tom, i'm still laughing about that story

I knew i was a knife addict when i spent money on a knife i can't afford, don't need for some explicit purpose, won't get for a few months at least, and thought i was getting a good deal

Incidentally, i still do think that.

Who? Me? Addicted?

- when I began arguing about stuff like tip-up vs. tip-down, locking mechanisms, etc. after a few too many pitchers at the bar, often to non-knife friends, and was rewarded with the "smile and nod" response
- when I started buying all of my friends and family (including my mum) pocketknives for Christmas, because "they should have one with them" (also, because it's an excuse to go knife shopping!)
- when I realized that I was sleeping with my favorite knife clipped to my pajamas

Tom-that is truly a great story...so the bride wasn't wearing her garter-knife?

Novadak-I hope it wasn't an automatic model....should I ask, tip-up or tip-down?

Back to reality -- I started to have a suspician when I purchased by Tanto Sebenza. My suspician was confirmed when shortly thereafter I bought a SpeedTech Synergy and then a Microtech CTII. Help!!

Tip-up! I suspect that tip-down has its merits, but pinch-gripping the knife makes me uncomfortable..
The one I sleep with, or the one I gave my mum? In either case, no.

I've known for a long time that I had a thing for knives. This was confirmed when one of the first things I did once I turned 18 a few months back was to order a knife. The first sign of actual addiction was browsing through pictures of Spydercos (of which I had none at the time) and coming across information about the Spyderco Lum. Normally I only feel what I felt that time when looking at girls

What sealed it in was getting similar feelings about other knives I read about here.

Who's an addict? I'm not an addict. Quick someone get me a knife I need a fix.

I think it started back in the womb. Right after I saw that pointy thing coming at me in the dark.

Cuchillo,

Well written post, and not too long. I realized I was an addict last fall when I got a computer with Internet access. I would sit and browse subjects that interest me (i.e. music, cars, movies) and was running out of things to "study". Then I did a search for "knives" and found all of these great suppliers and interesting knife designs (all I knew was pocket knives).

Until then, my interest in knives was only moderate. My dear Father-in-Law, who collects, has been giving me about one per year for the last ten years. So, I had some neat productions knives which I really appreciated. But now, on the Internet, I saw all of these great options (custom knives, collaborations, "tech knives", etc.). About the same time, I'd read an article about Chris Reeve in some gun magazine and was blown away by what went into those products. My interest was starting to grow, FAST.

Then I found this forum with its sense of community and cast of colorful characters. I started reading what people were saying and looking for a first knife to buy. after weeks of study, I settled on a CRKT Gray Ghost. The price was good and I liked the size and looks. When it arrived - then I was addicted!! Now I treat myself to one per month and each purchase is a journey... what do I want? how do I want to use it? what's going on at Bladeforums?

I can only imagine where this will lead. Customs, decorated Sabezas? Enjoy and welcome to the Bladeforums.

I realized I was an addict when my wife suggested I needed to seek professional counseling for my knife sickness.(True Story by the way)

I was hooked on knives on my sixth Birthday when my Dad gave me a two bladed Imperial. (which I still have 32 years later)
I realized I was an addict a few weeks ago when I went to the Credit Union at work to take out a short term loan to buy a custom knife. But to tell the truth.... If that is wrong I dont want to be right

I just started to wonder. I stopped by the knife shop on the way to supper with my wife Friday night. All I needed was a couple packs of knife protecters. I got in the car 15 minutes later with a small decorated Sebenza with a blue teardrop Damascus blade.

The first thing my wife said was "Are you in trouble?".

When I started making knives just for me, because I couldn't afford all those pretty things in the Blade magazine. Went to Vegas and everytime the slot machine would pay off all I could think was "I need more, I wanna go by the knife shop on the way home". This is an addiction I have had for years and you folks don't know how happy it makes me to have found these forums. Finally people who dont think I'm strange because I always have a knife or three on me.
