When did your love for Buck knives begin?

Back in the early '60s I had a fixed edge Buck of some sort. I can't remember which model, but I bought it to use with my scouting. It was similar to a 102 but it has been so long ago, that I do not recall. It was my pride and joy as a kid. Kept it for many years until it somehow disappeared in a divorce (yes, I checked my back - not there). Then in the early '80s (I think) I got a 501 and carried it constantly. These two knives made me a fan of Buck. Over the years, I accumulated several more and have bought a bunch recently. My Dad carried a 701 that influenced me as well.

For me, it was the 110. The guys in my department all carried them and when I joined up in 1974, I got one too. I've misplaced it but it's here somewhere. I bought another around 2008 just to have one accessible. But what put me over the top was running across the 501 Squire a few years later. It was the perfect size for me and replaced the 110 for daily carry until just a few years ago when I switched over to a Benchmade Mini-Grip as I wanted the clip and OH opening. Still carry the 501 or a 500 from time to time.

What really made the 501 one of my all time favorite knives was as a picnic knife. It was just the right blade size to cut small Italian salamis and various cheeses. It also is a great apple knife. I think back on all the picnics over the years that my 501 was the principle utensil and think on all those good times and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy when I carry and use that knife over 30 years later. Actually, the first one resides in the safe know and I use a newer version. Don't want to lose or damage the original one at this stage of the game.

A couple days ago, when I received the 303 and the 112FG!

I hope to see many more Bucks in my toolbox eventually.

:)

14 years old, brand new 112 two dot in hand, mesmerized by the beautiful shiny brass and dark ebony covers...

1972 a 112 micarta lost in woods found online 39 years later, buck bug bit early can not shake it and really do not want too

I have a mini Buck that came free with a 110 about 10 years ago. The little guy lives in my tackle box. I never think about it unless I'm fishing.

I bought my first folding hunter way back in 1967 i think
( i knows i was only 15 and working as a electricians helper)
i was so proud of that knife with all the grown up men admiring it
it was stolen but i promptly bought another one !
carried one in the navy and on to the rest o my days to now..
now a days they call it the 110 but back then
it was and to me still is a folding hunter..

110Dave, wonderful story. My first 110 was stolen also. But I waited almost 10 years before getting another.

well partner I is sure glad ya did not waite any longer then ya did !!!
one o my sayings is why put off a good thing?

Mid 1970’s growing up it was KampKing, Schrade Old Timer and Uncle Henry and to me BUCK was, as you said the knife holy grail but way beyond my budget. Mid-way through high school I got a job in a service station (for you youngen’s an auto and truck repair garage that sold fuel) and was able to buy my first BUCK off the MAC tool truck and still have it. This led to 50 plus years love of BUCK Knives, accumulation of BUCK, life member of BCCI and can still say to me BUCK is the one to have.
Thanks BUCK
Bob

Well its not that I didn't want one. I went to college and nothing larger than my 301 was allowed on campus. After me and the wife got married I was just to busy for a long time for many outdoors activities (not because of the wife). About 11 years my wife bought me a new 110.:D

Wen I saw the dude on the Viagra commercial spark a fire with the butt of a 110 while his date is in the tent making the bed. THAT is my kind of multi tool.

1st Buck Knife, as best as I can recall, was a 500 given to me in 1979 after I got the Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts
Ended up losing it in the snow on a Boy Scout camping trip a couple years later.
Parents got me a 110 to replace it.
Been hooked on Buck Knives ever since :)
