When do you post your deal disagreements to this forum?

I haven't been trading any knives since I started working in DC 4 years ago, then I just did one last week.

The transaction didn't go so well, as some of you might already seen it in this post (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/899711-Just-checking-to-see-if....)

The short story is: I paid for a used police 3G described as "never cut a thing, not even my finger", then when I received it in my mail, I found the edge was partially rolled. Of course I was pissed and wanted to reverse the transaction.

Here is the part that bothered me: I always thought the feedback forum should be the last method (before you go to the law enforcement) of communication for trade disagreements, but apparently some people don't. When I saw the edge and wasn't happy, I immediately emailed Mr. Robert Courtney (robotech @ bladeforums) at 6:46pm to tell him about what I found and I wanted a reverse. He replied my email the next morning at 3am, agreeing to reverse the transaction while claiming he sent out a perfect blade and demanded pictures. I replied the next morning at 8:30 and provided the pictures. Then I found out that he already posted a thread here at 4:20am that morning, claiming he smells "scam" and "stinky" and citing my real name.

I don't know whether it's become common now that people post criticizing threads on the feedback forum as soon as things go wrong, or it's just Mr. Courtney wanted to take a preemptive action to appear more innocent in this transaction. I mean, look at the time he replied email and the time he posted on this forum. He's obviously not interested in getting any information or seeing any pictures he asked for, before he started throwing dirts.

I think people are just more suspicious these days after the seemingly vastly increast number of scams, rip offs and otherwise bad goings on. I wouldn't take it too personally.

The knife you got has what is a common problem from what I've seen, I have had new out of the box knives that had the same damage from the spring or spacer. The issue could have easily been kept between you both (and with the benefit of hind sight should have) but it wasn't, so you both just have to deal with it publicly. The same way you would have in private of course.

We are all friends here, well most of us are...or some of us at least...maybe, it's all good any way. :p:thumbup:

When I buy a $100 knife I buy it to use, it has zero collector value. That edge is a 10 second fix, this is alot of crap for a knife made to be used hard and put away wet, it is far from a safe queen.

But that's my opinion and my knife "collecting" YMMV

My thoughts and advice are here.

As far as the knife in question, if you feel it was not represented accurately, reverse the deal. However, it is a "used" knife was it not, according to the description? If I deal with a person, and there is a doubt, I ask for more pictures. If they get hormonal about my requet, I move on. The rolled edge can be fixed quite easily, and that is the nature of VG10, it rolls rather than chip.

Ireed, I think you are being perfectly reasonable. And yes, the FB forum should be the final resort, unfortunate it wasnt in your case. Id deal with you, and well, that other guy is on my ignore list, before this even.

Thanks dericdesmond.

Wolfmann601, the knife was described as a carried but unused knife. I guess I set my expectation too high for the "never cut anything, not even my finger" part. I don't mind getting a reputation as a picky peson, cause I actually am. But all those preemptive accusations and name callings just because a buyer was unsatisfied about the product he received? It was a lot of crap. I didn't expect that much crap either.

Does complaining here first make you appear more innocent in a trade disagreement? Psychologically, it may be true. But I hope it's not the standard fashion that people here deal with such problems, because it's not decent.

Just my 2 cents -
One should try and make amends in private before riding into town on the drama llama. I've had good experiences in my purchases here, one knife was said to be NIB "mint", it was actually carried and the paint on the pivot screw was actually wearing off. I chalked that one up to overzealousness of the seller and maybe a bit of bold ignorance.

I still don't know what a carried/unused blade is really. If you need to cut something and you have a knife in your pocket...whatcha gonna do? Gnaw it away with your teeth and save the knife?

A deal isn't done until both parties are happy, so whatever happened it's up to you guys to work it out with as little smear as possible.
