So, on which blades (especially on multi bladed traditional knives) do you use for what?
Clip point
Drop Point
Tanto
Wharncliffe
Sheepsfoot
Spey
Pen
etc.

clip point for food an dressing game, sheeps foot for whittling and utility cutting, spey for skinning. That would be for a stockman type folder, with something like a texas jack or a barlow I'd use the penfor utility cutting (sheeple friendly) and the larger clip for food prep and such

I never use tanto, I keep my spey blade on my trapper razoer sharp and only use it when the clip blade gets dull or there is something that does not require tip work. I don't own any warnnies or sheepsfoot blades so i dont use them. I use Clip and drop points for almost everything.

Thes days on my stockman knives, I use the clip blade for most chores. I keep the other blades sharp and use the Sheepsfoot for making precise cuts and the spey for cutting things that should not be poked. I realize the last sentence sounds odd. An example. I helped my son buy a new suit. The coat pockets were sewn shut. I used the spey blade to gently cut the threads holding the pocket closed with no fear of damaging the fabric. I don't use the spey often these days, but it is there for when I need it.

A number of years ago I worked in a lab. One of the things we did was produce special sheets of rubberized material that were bonded to a stiff backing. I used to keep the spey blade of a stockman fairly dull so that I could use it to trim the rubber material so that it exactly matched the size of the backing. The blade would cut the rubber without cutting into the backing.

Tanto: never had one, never will.

what do you guys think about the reverse tanto as seen on the BM 940? It has all the tip strength of a tanto but the belly of a drop point. I havn't received my 940 yet so I was just wondering

Interesting that you posted this in General, should be an interesting thread.

Clip point : Food
Drop Point : all round
Tanto : dont like it -> dont own any
Wharncliffe : carving / whittling
Sheepsfoot : utility (there's a reason why the stanly 99 uses this blade shape)
Spey : blunt-> used as a scraper
Pen : detail work

Tanto for survival
Clip point for hunting
Drop point can do it all. I guess I don't use any other type. My slippie has a sheeps foot but I seldom use it.

One of the first knives I would grab in a survival situation is my CS Recon Tanto. Second, probably the 12 inch Tram.

I challenge all my different blade shapes to do things they normally wouldn't be expected to do.

Lately - I've been pushing my Razel to it's limits so I can learn how functional that blade shape can be.

Drop point - Cutting fruit

Wharncliff - opening Envelopes

Tanto - used in case I'm surrounded by 20 kevlar wearing ninjas.

Spearpoint for when you need a fine point yet with good strength. Also lightweight!

Am I the only one who finds the tanto point useful for things such as scoring cardboard, etc?

I like it for sliding down the main sails, and carving ye old point of no return on the plank off the starboard side. Aye.

Tanto is dumb.

The rest....well, whatever is in my pocket gets used for whatever I need it.
