How thin should a person leave the edge before starting the edge bevel and sharpening? I've got the edge to about 1/32 inch and have some more work to do on the knife. I just need to know when I should stop grinding and start hand sanding. Never quite went the whole way with a flat grind before. Thanks for the help! -Matt-

Hey Grease,That is a question to ask in the chat tonight....The answer to this question depends on a lot of different variables. It all depends on what kind of edge you are wanting and what kind of knife it is and how thin the blade is..For me it is just sort of a thing I eye ball for the blade I am working on,no real measurments for me to answer with.

The knife i carry on my person has a flat grind that goes all the way with no secount bevel. it gets very sharp but might be a little harder for someone to sharpen

I like about 20 thousands: That's on most knives, but not all. I hope I understood the question correctly.

That's kind of what I was looking for was a measurement like that Barkes  After chatting with Bruce more on the subject, I guess it comes down to maker's preference and what kind of edge you want. I'm pretty new yet so, I still have lots of bridges to cross as far as preference!:D Thanks for the help guys! -Matt-
