not when you were in boyscouts and got your first swiss army. I mean when/how did you decide to really start to collect/make/invest time and effort into knives?

I started buying a lot of knives while in the Army - mostly cold steel and the like - and then I got on this forum about a month ago, and have since gotten in to RAT/Ranger/Scrapyard - I've gotten 7 blades this month and I think that its going to be an irreversible trend...

My Dad has always had knives and made knives worked on guns, hunted deer and with dogs so I was just born into it. I just looked about and knives where there! He gave me some and I bought the ones I liked now I've got about 60.

I don't know-- I think I was born with a blade fixation.

What he said. Been fascinated by knives since I was a kid. Started reading about them and buying them as a teenager. Never been able to afford being a collector. But I have EDC'd something sharp since I was in my 20's and over last 30+ years I have picked up a few decent blades for everyday use.

My perents told me they noticed my interest in knives at about 2 years of age!! So I would say I was born with it.

I was born into it, too. Have always had a fasination with knives. When I was a kid my mom would never allow it. Found a knife on the street when I was about 7 years old and was thrilled to death. I can remember vacationing in D.C. when I was 10. What do you think I chose for a souvenier? A small knife key chain. Man was I one happy, cool kid.

My first knife was a pearl Case from Ace Hardware store when I was about 10years old. I hid it from Mom for about a month...left it in my pants pocket..you know the rest of the story.
I replaced it at once and was much more devious with my hiding places.
When I was a junior high "man" I let her know I carry a knife now. She relented. I have always had a knife since then. Only a few though. It was last April when my wife suggested I take up a hobby I floundered into this forum and began spending money here.Don't drink, don't carouse around, need a vice I guess so we both decided knives would do fine. Got 84 knives now. Dog Father on the way...85. I will never stop now. not until I own all the knives in the world.
Peace.

I've always had an EDC knife, but never new the difference in a good knife from a great one. This forum has such a vast wealth of people willing to educate others, I feel my recent purchases have been made with purpose. Getting into knifes is one thing, knowing what you are doing once you are in seems to be entirely different.

I lost my leatherman a few months back, decided to replace it recently, and I like forums for doing my research when I buy products like that. I joined candlepowerforums before buying a flashlight (got a fenix p1d ce, and a l2d ce) so I figured I'd do my homework before I got a knife. After a few days on here, I decided on an SOG tomcat and a mcusta kasumi. Now that I've seen everything they have here, I'm thinkin about gettin some balisongs, and eventually throwing knives.

I started about twenty years ago. I saw a great Buck knife at a sporting goods store here on Maui and said to myself I just had to get it. I then got a Leatherman after a few years and about six years ago I really got collecting and purchased a Boker and was given a Gerber as a gift. Last year I really went hog wild and purchased quite a few blades that includes Lone Wolf, Kershaw, and on and on.

I discovered air guns again and now my fixation is on that.

My uncle made knives for a hobby and ever since I saw then at about 3 years old, I have loved knives. That, plus my dad always had a victrinox swiss arrmy knife, buck 110, and a ka-bar.

When I was a little kid my mother showed me how to cut my steaks into bite sized portions that made it easier to eat;)

I have been a big fan of knives ever since:thumbup:

My parents say that I've always had a thing for edged weapons. When I was little I would make paper swords and cardboard knives and the like, and run around scaring the cats. I got my first knife at 7 from my dad, but my parents were never comfortable with me amassing a collection. Now I'm in college and have started collecting since I'm out of the house! :).

I started when I was around 10 and I am now 47 and have become a major knife collector....I just love collecting them !!

Here's a good question: How many of you still have your first knife? what was it? and what shape is it in now?

My first knife was a keychain size victorionox that I inherited from my grandfather. It's still in fine form, though I no longer carry it for fear of losing it. It even still has it's original toothpick (though not the tweezer) after more than 21 years (he died 21 years ago, I dont know when he got the knife)
