when/how did you get into knives?

I have EDC'd a Swiss Army knife for about 37 years, but only started collecting seriously a few months back. I find myself using knife values to judge other wants. Let's see...that is equivalent to a Kershaw Avalanche... ;)

When I ran across this site one day while wasting time on the 'Net. (that was back when the site was still totally accessible by guests.) I had no idea there was such a large world of "knife knuts" out there. I starting reading, and was soon hooked. Thanks a lot, you guys. ;) :D

I seem to be in the process of becoming hooked right now

When I learned that I could get a switchblade. I got one and that got me hooked. Started reading these damn knife forums and the addiction only got worse.

Started when I was a kid, mother was dead set aginst guns it the house
so i started sneaking in knives. Been doing it ever since ( 30+ years).

Since birth I have been interested in knives and swords.
When I was a little kid I would stare at the SF Dagger pics in the WW2 pics.
I was a bit older when I bought my mom a letter opener(a quality throwing knife)
for mothers day.

My father gave me a Boker dogs congress, NIB (now my little bro has it), and a neighbor gave me a Schrade Cave Bear 70T. I beat the living snot out of my Cave Bear, broke the tip off, and reprofiled the point. Kicking myself now, I sold that couple years ago. I started buying junk knives from the local fleamarket (the old cow palace on 851 for the Maryland/Pennsylvania crowd), and just had too many junkers break on me. Started buying Cold Steel and Gerber, gradually moved up to Benchmade and Spyderco, now into customs, Chris Reeve and Strider, and getting into traditionals again. FWIW, I like the Cave Bear over the 110. But you can't get a Cave Bear with an S30V blade and carbon fiber handles ;)...
