OK, I'm not a knife maker, but I have done my fair share of drawing new creations via graphite. My question is, whom should I submit my drawing/creation to to be considered for production? My work is along the lines of Kit Rae, Gil Hibben...so obviously United is a contender, but who else is along the Fantasy knife line? Any idea what a design is worth to someone who wants it? Unknown authors receive 13% from the sale of their books. Any thoughts appreciated.

if you had more than one design, like a series such as what hibben or kit rae has done, your chances of being accepted by a manufacturer might be better than one knife alone. IMO fantasy knife manufacturers are in it more for the money than anything else, (please note "manufacturers" not custom makers) so a series of designs might be more appealing, to keep the customer coming back for more..

since the design is YOURS you should be able to decide what you want for it. (within reason of course, no multibillion dollar deals :D )
happy hunting, best of luck.:)

Well, that's just it, what is "reason"? I stumbled on something while sketching and came up with a series of 6-12 knives that are highly marketable. Pricing is what has me baffled, one manufacturer already told me 5% of sales...nothing up front. That seems kinda low to me.
Also, can any of you either make a knife (proto-type) for me inexpensivly? I've come up with a wonderful tactical folder that I would like to see done, am considering asking Camillus to do the proto but figure they'll be high.

I'd suggest contracting with a custom maker to build 20 of them, take them to a knife show or find some other form of distribution, and then use the success of that to help you with your conversations with the production houses.

Or alternately just put up your own website and start selling them yourselves. I would think most of the custom guys who could make the original versions for you could also help you find an off-shore production company to build in higher volume.

The key is that you would have to assume the up front financial risk.
