when out on the trail...911 might not always be the best way to get help.

just a head's up...save your park ranger's # in your cell too in case 911 fails to answer in an emergency while out hiking. took a quick hike earlier today to blow off some stress and i come back to my truck with this damage :(

according to a witness, the lady who hit my truck pretended to leave a note but didn't so the witness instead left me a note with a partial info.

i tried to contact 911 over the span of 15 min but couldn't (it would ring once and then busy signal). it's really no big deal but with my luck lately i bet that lady will try to file a claim and might blame me so i wanted a police report to back me up. i ended up taking my trail map out and saw a # there so i called that and reached the park police with that and he showed up after 5 min or so of me hanging up.

anyway, looking at it from the bright side, now i know to save the park ranger's # in my cell and try that first before dialing 911. they'll most likely be contacted by 911 anyway in an emergency since they'll know the area much better and this might just save valuable time in a true emergency! just a head's up.

That stinks.

Great tip though.

If you spend enough time in the preserves, you will most likely eventually have a need to call the rangers.

Here, it's often strange activity that may prompt a call (i.e. grow plots, harvesting large crops of plants, illegal hunting and fishing, etc.)

Good advice from JV3 here. (Sorry bout your truck, hope they tag her with a citation for leaving the scene..That was not cool!) Having a GPS is a good ideal too...National Parks & Forest have become a mecca for illegal pot growing and there have been improvised "booby traps" found around these areas. A quick call to the Rangers Station and a GPS coordinate then sit tight till they get to you.

That sucks man. Id get real mad if something like that had happened to my car AND they just left without a note

Good idea on the phone number

Sorry to see that happen to you JV3. Hope the cops find them.
We're not allowed to call 911 here about accidents like that unfortunately. Only life-threatening incidents.
Where I go bush , cells are useless for about a 40 mile zone.

we have some really stupid laws with guns and knives here so i figured better be safe than sorry and get it documented. not really sure who else to call i guess.

i knew i needed to have a police report done to cover my ass. who knows what else might've happened while i was gone - she has my plate # but i don't have hers. she could say she saw me with a knife on the trail and that's why she hit the gas hard to take off because she got scared. with my luck i'd be in a freaking jail or something :o

Yeah man , the best thing to do is CYA. My luck sucks too...sometimes what you think what happened is not what actually happened. Still though, you got a busted truck. Maybe that lady that left the letter could be a reporting witness. With a partial plate and vehicle plus probable occupant description , this may eventually come to some resolution.

Best of luck to you with this situation my friend.
