It's obvious. They take the best sellers and anodize them to various colors or combos of colors and sell 'em again at increased prices..as special limited editions...and we eat 'em up. Yes, the colors are often attractive. No harm done. It seems rather "commercial" but if they sell...everybody's happy.
Of course, they take our "working" tools and occasionally turn them into beautiful, colorful works of art...to the point where we're rather afraid to use them. I must admit, I am smitten by my ZT0801BRZ, and cannot imagine using it for anything other than as a centerpiece of adoration. Funny folks...these knife people.
:)

It's because they are in business to make money so the owners and employees can afford to live someplace, eat, and raise families. Odd thing about that, how companies need to figure out how to keep making money every year if they want to stay in business and continue to pay their employees.

So if you are in a retail business, you have to figure out how to sell the same number or more products this year than you did last year. If pretty colors gets people to buy things, then you make them in pretty colors.

At the same time, they often fill a need. I kind of wanted a skyline for a long time, but was soooo bored with black handled knives; TaDum, enter the "natural jade" g10 from BHQ around Christmas and I now have a skyline I can (and do) love. :D

Shrug. Unless I don't like a knife and plan on selling it, I'm not afraid to use it. Then again, I'm not a collector. I just like knives.

In my recollection, Whitty was the first fellow to bring this anodizing to my attention. One of his first was a beautiful blue, which is also one of the easiest to do at home in your sink.

Now we are seeing color patterns and such that are really quite amazing and dramatic, and I have no idea how they can "screen" off various parts of the scale for individualized adjacent colors. Very beautiful, however. Kudos to these artists in titanium! And how much "masking skill" does it require before I am able to order my ZT with my name or initials in anodized colors?

So now, some of us have to buy one knife to admire, and one to use, which is good for sales...to the extent that it actually works.

Of course, quite a few of us are determined to actually USE our knives, and so that opens up another source of income; namely, the "rejuvenation" of scratched or marred anodizing of the ti scales to restore them as new. That doesn't work with everyone though, since a few of us are quite "proud" of the honest spider-marks in our Sebbies and ZT's.

Nobody said that you can't have your cake and eat it, too... :)

What about those that don't have a particular affinity towards the brz, but want one in pink, or red or blue?

You have your knife, others can't have theirs?
