When to ban passaround problem users?

good on you Gus! I know Robert personally and was contacted by many, unfortunately I was AFK and did not have his ph # on me. I am glad the people connected with THE people and got this whole MESS straightened out!

good on YOU, Gus aka Bastid!

DaveH. . . .nothing like jumping the gun, eh ?

I wrote the check for it. But it was purchased from the custom passaround funds. If you need to assign ownership to an individual, it might as well be me.

:jerkit:

Ownership of something else is warranted !

Thanks for reversing the ban, Bastid !

I'm glad this seems to be resolved.

However, it's still up to him to let us know when his circumstances change and it still up to him to answer his email. which by the way he hasn't done.

It think this was the right move, he was ignoring us, Bastid got his attention.

I doubt very highly he was ignoring you. Robert is a doctor and things get hectic when you have to move to a different hospitial on short notice. You didn't have all of the facts and jumped the gun without fully understanding his situation. A little leeway in situations such as that should be allowed without branding someone as untrustworthy.

I am glad this seems to be turning out OK. I too have a sizable $$ investment in that knife, as well as an investment in passarounds in general.

Lets not pile on DaveH. His wisdom and sound judgement that I have observed far outweigh any one instance of making a mistake. The frustration is real. Sometimes the "bucket of leeway" is a little empty after dealing with multiple folks on small issues.

I totally agree a little leeway is a good thing. Mine was used up in this case. If he was too busy to effectively participate in a passaround, or answer email he shouldn't have signed up.

Not surprising !

I'm not going to comment on who was wrong or right, since I don't know all the details of this situation. What I will say is that in a very diverse community like this knife passaround when something valuable is changing hands, rules are extremely important. These rules are only as strong as someone is willing to enforce them. (Yes, the rules serve us, and we shouldn't get to the point of us serving them . . . that's where judgment comes in, and I'm not going there in this post.) Personally, I place a very high value on rule enforcement.

Being put in a position of authority and/or facilitation for an activity like this takes effort, guts, focus, discipline, and personal time. DaveH -- thanks for freely giving all of these things to the group!

Trouble is that in this case, Dave failed to see posts made by the person who was banned and the person was mailed the knife out of turn.

My initial inclination after getting Dave's side of the story (which I thought would be factual and true) was to support him and I did so by banning Robert, once the real truth was discovered there was actually no valid reason to ban him so I reversed the ban.

I have written a personal apology to Robert and Dave should do the same.
