When was the canoe pattern first introduced and by whom?

I may be wrong but I never see vintage canoe slipjoints. Were they a creation of the 70's-80's, or did they occur earlier?
Was Case the first to introduce them?

Here's a frankencanoe from my interesting wreck collection. Got it on the bay one night from an honest seller. He thought it was an old Boker frame with the beautiful Russell blade added. The celluliod looks like Remington cell but who knows what it really is. I got it for 10 bucks, I Love the Russell clip which seems full.

Regards

Robin

The canoe is a cattle knife type double end jack... Here's a "swell center canoe" or "surveyor"... it's a very old pattern.

Wow; I never seen one with a clip blade like the one Pipeman posted! Keep it coming; this is turning into a interesting thread!

Peter, The blade does not belong to the handle. Someone assembled it from the parts of broken knives. Robin, I like your words, "frankencanoe from my interesting wreck collection"... it made me smile. :)
