When was this LE Duke made?

Since you are much more of an expert on the Dukes than I, Dave, perhaps you can help with one I just received as a gift? It is a finger-grooved sambar stag 500 in the western sytle sheath, pre-date stamped, with blade etching. The laser-etch is of a grizzly and written on the blade is "LIMITED BUCK" "GRIZZLY" "1 OF 250" and on the opposite side is stapmed with the serial number 187 in older block stamping as from the old Custom Shop days with Leroy and Byron and Bill.
Ever seen such and animal, Dave?

Dave

Hi GD,

Your Grizzly Duke was made in 1985. The photo below is a poor pic of that knife, but, it is the one in the back. The etch of the grizzly looks more like a hedge hog than a grizzly to me:eek:.

Nice herd of Duke's PBD!

That is the one, John! Thanks for the help. I just don't know a lot of info on folders like I tend to on the fixed. The one here is NIB but it just ain't my thing.
I was thinking more of a wolverine, but a hedgehog?.....LOL!

Looks to me something like a Teddy Bear from the photo. :D

Thanks, here's some (but not all) of my others. I have about 6 more that I haven't taken pictures of yet.

WOW That is a fine collection.

The third from the right at the bottom (Sambar stag) is a stunner. My kind of knife. :)

Hi Dave & All,

Here is a paragraph from Larry Oden's artical "Put Up Some Dukes" in the spring 08 BCCI news letter:

Also in 1985, a fingergrooved 500 with stag
inlays was offered by Taylor Cutlery of
Kingsport,Tennessee.The blade pictured a
deep acid etch of a Grizzly bear. One bolster
was serialized 1-250 and the knife came in a
special hardwood display case. I believe the
blade artwork and hardwood display box
were done aftermarket (not by Buck Knives)
and it is also possible that the stag was added
aftermarket.
