I have a Workman 110 and just picked this one up. I've never seen any like this before. Can someone give me a ballpark idea of what year catalogs to look in for info?

I don't have all the annual catalogs, but the Workman series doesn't show up in the '89 catalog and DOES in the '91. According to the detailed description in the '93 catalog, the model pictured is the Pro-3000 Contractor, Model 812. There were also single (Pro-1000) and 3-blade (Pro-5000) versions.

Thanks, I've been trying to get on the BCCI website to go through the catalogs, but it seems the servers are down.

My workman was the 110 w/single piece hadle stamped 1991.They were discontinued about the same time as the selector maybe a year later 1994.DM

Plumberdv, according to the BCCI specification sheet your Buck 812 Work-Man was produced between 1988 and 1990. 5000 expl. were made.
From the same series: The 811 was produced at the same time (quantitiy 5500), The 813 from 1988 to 1989 (5000 expl.)

Best,

Could you tell me where to find that spec sheet? I was finally able to get back on the BCCI site and went through the catalogs. I found the Workman series first mentioned in the '91 issue, but it gave no specifics. I did see one called the "Guildmaster" in '88 and '89 that is similar. I didn't find the "Workman" series actually shown until '93 and '94 and it had black, textured handles. They vanished from the catalogs after that.

I think it's going to be a very useful knife to carry, that hawkbill blade will be great for many uses I think.

Log in at http://www.buckcollectorsclub.org , have a look at the "Model History", go down to 811/812/813, click on the right hand side on the GUILDMASTER1.../2.../3... and find your informations.

Dave they were Workmans in the 80's. I got my first workman(my first Buck Knife) in about 85 or 86.

I just bought this 1988 model 812. In the catalog it's shown as a "Guildmaster-2" and doesn't have the blade etch. I'm anxious to get both of them so I can compare the two.

Hey Plumb and everyone,

Just to make information available:
Workman is a series on several model knives, 110s and 300s among the others. Check the 1980's catalogs.

In the 300 series they started in the mid 80's with both Buck escutcheon plates and hammer, knife and bolt plates. Workman was printed on main blade on 312,303,309 and 305 slipjoints with mostly GREY sawcut Delrin scales. Photo of a couple coming, want all 8 but only have 4.

Photo of my different 303 Work'men', and one 305. Notice the different dates, 80's and 1990 on top, sorry I covered over a 1989 V date. Notice the one BLACK scale with the different blade etch, also dated dated 1996, a backwards C. Notice the escutcheon plates some with small knife design and with large knife. Works that way for the same period for non-Workman 300s.

I see what you are saying and now I'm even more confused (a common thing with me). I've been through every catalog on the BCCI web site starting with 1979 looking for them. I couldn't find any mention of "Workman" until 1993.

I found the Guildmaster 1, 2 & 3 (811, 812, 813) with no blade etch in the 1988 and '89 catlogs. They were gone in 1990, '91 and '92.

The very first "Workman" series didn't show up in those catalogs until 1993. The Pro 1000, 3000, and 5000 (811, 812, and 813) appear to be the same as the Guildmasters but with the Workman blade etch. 1993 is the first time the 300 series Workmans show up in the catalogs.

Is the BCCI site missing some catalog supplements that show them earlier?

Plumberdv.........The workman I have looks just like your black one with the checkered
handle except the handle is brown. It is dated 1988 and it has BUCK WORK-MAN printed
on both sides of the handle. The box has Pro 3000 with W812-BK-O under it. Picked if up a few years ago from Smoky Mountain.

Wow, another version. The Pro 3000 doesn't show up in the cartalogs until 1993, so that's another mystery. I think I'll give up on trying to figure this out, my brain is beginning to hurt.:grumpy:
