I wonder who is furthest on the foodchain to the source to getting them first? I'd like to pre-order two plain-edge models, one for testing, one for carry. Are any of the on-line dealers quicker than others for getting Spyderco?
Doug - You might want to try Ironstone Distinctive Bladeware. They are also located in Golden (maybe just a short drive from the Spyderco facility?) Their website is at http://www.fe3stone.com
Other than IDB, I'd suggest bugging the other net dealers like KnifeCenter, Skylands Cutlery, NW Cutlery, etc. Hope this info helps!

I have a problem, I want to get my brother a good knife for his birthday (STARMATE-PLAINEDGE) March 14, 1999, but I question it's availibility by then. Can you put my curiousity to rest? I'm getting him a spyderco one way or another.
Thanks
Nick
Sal, my anniversary is on the ides of March (thats March 15th). My wife would like to get me a plainedge starmate to celebrate her love for me. I hope she can get me one.
Nick & Shootist16 - contact djo62 at Spyderco Cust svc. She can check with mfg as to first pieces out. She can also recommend plain edges in early pieces. First 200 pieces go to collectors (that's the best way to insure getting every new model). She should be able to let you know.

Edgehead - Need to sign on with Nancy at Spyderco Sales dept. (800-525-7770) Since we don't sell retail direct, you will have to set up shipping through your favorite dealer. Spyderco numbers the first 200 pieces. They go to the "Collectors". Last I heard there were still about 50 numbers left.

I called Nancy a few weeks ago about the collectors program. It sounds like a great thing. However she said the programs average cost is $1000.00 per year. Being a lowly LEO I'm afraid I can't afford that.
Danelle -- Thanks for your efforts, there are many folks (myself too!) that can't wait to get that new Starmate.
The plain edge is also my first choice.
If you know of any dealers that might be a little higher in the food chain and can get stuff rather quick, please let us know. I'll be the first in line to pre-pay for two plain edge models!
Hey Sal,
Any new news about when that starmate is going to be out? You had mentioned some sort of delay because of a problem. What is that problem and do you have an estimate of when you think it is going to ship?
Thanks alot, and the forums are great thanks for recomending them, I am glad I am not the only knife nut out there.

Poz - yes, the liner is exposed as it appears. Even in a white-knuckle grip, I can barely feel the liner touching my index finger. Take my word on it - it won't release accidentally in your grip.
