The factory sheaths for the 110 & 112 are great, but what if you bought a used knife with no sheath .

Would you buy a factory replacement from Buck or go with something aftermarket?

I'd make my own.

am thinking I might go with the distressed brown Buck sheath,
I really like the look of my distressed brown Buck 110 sheath but it really seems to cause staining of the brass faster than the regular black leather ones.
Personally I find the nylon sheath much more comfortable to wear. If I needed a sheath a Buck nylon one is probably what I would buy.

like to mostly leave my brass alone just occasionally buffing the surface buildup off smooth on my jean leg, so that wouldn't really bother me unless you're talking about the green verdigris.
I do like the polyester sheath my 110LT came with but prefer the more traditional leather route for my brass & wood Bucks.

when I get off work I'll dig around and see if I have anything to carry it in for now while I decide on a permanent solution.

I don’t polish my brass either. Maybe you will have better luck than I had with the distressed brown leather. I like the looks of the classic black leather but would rather wear the nylon one. Let us know what you decide, it’s a real nice 112 you bought. My 1991 110 is my favorite I think.

I admire your workmanship and fully understand why you took the harder path. Some people are makers and you sir are one. I just came back from shopping for leather to make some sheaths myself but stuck out. Looks like it's online shopping for me.

Normally I would but I need to order some more leather, and some knives I feel deserve better than my mediocre handywork.

I am thinking I might go with the distressed brown Buck sheath, but there's some nice stuff out there.
If you have a link to a good online leather site It would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if I can post links if they aren't supporting vendors.
You can order from Tandy, Weaver, and lately I have ordered from European Leather works who seems to have good prices on their leather.

To get started ( after 15 years I'm still a rogue amateur) you can just go buy bags of leather scraps from the local craft store like Micheals.

I have bought scraps from michaels in the past but sadly they are all closing doors in my area as I found out today at the door. I have heard Tandy mentioned in the past and will give it a look. Thanks

I went ahead and ordered a factory Buck sheath, SMKW has the American made sheaths for $20 so I went with that instead of the standard made in Mexico sheath because I'm curious about how these sheaths fit with the very squarely formed bottom.

Most of my leather came from Tandy. But I went in and picked out what I wanted myself. Depending on how far you are willing to drive, that may or may not be an option for you. You can check their website to see where their closest store is. If you want to wet form the leather, you will need veg-tan leather. If you want the best quality leather, order some tooling, or saddle skirting leather, from the Wickett & Craig tannery.

Buck's nylon and leather sheaths for the 110, as well as for their FBs are pretty good bang for the buck (sorry), but if you want something more elaborate, there are lots of custom makers here on BladeForums. FWIW, I cut my stock leather sheaths apart, work in a couple coats of SnowSeal and sew them back together using heavier waxed nylon thread, using a cobbler's stitch. Occasionally, if the design is good but the leather poor (Roselli, Benchmade Puukko), I'll use the original as a pattern to make a better sheath out of heavier leather.

Yes most of them are great.

The 212 sheath was not and the 102 sheath is pretty loose fitting , but otherwise if the factory option is lefty friendly I usually go that route.

Like most of us old guys, I have a drawer that contains many old Buck sheaths--some of them collectible.

I can usually find a sheath in there.

Don't much care for the new sheaths anyway.

The leather is not flexible........reminds me of plastic.

In my experience it breaks in well, but I have only experienced one vintage sheath.
My dad got soaked one day at work a couple years ago, now his 110 sheath is moulded to the knife and after he had me condition it for him it's very supple too.
