When you show friends your knife collection.

Most of my friends ask my if I'm a serial killer.

That reminds me of when my wife and I first got together, and then got engaged six days later with a plan to marry six weeks after that in Gretna Green.

Her best friend warned her (quite seriously) that I could well be a psychopathic axe murderer...

...and I had never even mentioned my knife collection!

My wife bought me a knife for our first anniversary, and several more since. She's very understanding of my passion for knives and does appreciate some of them herself.

I have a couple buddies that have seen and know about my collection, they enjoy seeing it but they do think I am a little crazy for paying that much cash for a knife. My wife knew I collected knives when we first met, she always enjoys seeing what I bought. I also make sure to show my 3 kids the collection, it will be theirs one day, hopefully.

Ill test the waters showing someone what Im carrying if there is no interest Ill leave it at that. For the most part most people think Im crazy when they find out what Im carrying cost. So be it I do it for myself anyway

My first fixed blade was a FBMLE In the excitement to show my buddy my new toy, he pretty much cut off his thumb within 30 seconds of handling it. Lost a couple hours of our smokin and drikin time taking him to the hospital. I now tend to be a little more careful on who I let handle them.

I usually get the standard stupid remarks like oh man this one could really murder someone or why do you need a knife this big .... When it comes to cost i have started saying things like this one was really cheap!! it was only 650 :D

I don't show. Most just don't get it. Any blade over 6 inches and it's either "wow, is that a machete?" or " why do you need something THAT big?". The other thong is the cost. Most around here are pretty frugal these days. More people selling off their possesions just to pay the bills. Flaunting excess of anything just ain't a good idea for many reasons.

When I show them to somebody I keep the knife roll on my lap, (out of their reach) or hand them a chamois 1st and advise them to use the chamois to hold the knife and to not touch the steel with bare hands, cause I don't want them to cut themselves, most accept this bs excuse.

Hmm that's an interesting question, while I have around 15 knives (I know to most of you that's a small amount) I wouldn't really say I collect knives. I like knives they are cool to have and useful. But I only have a couple that hold any real significance with me. One is my Boker Top Lock which is the first gift my wife ever gave me, I think it was 90 bucks 14 years ago. The other two that really hold a lot of value to my is my fathers "Case" folder that belonged to his father and the Swiss Army knife my daughter picked out for me when she was 5 (it also happens to be the one that sees the most use) so with all that being said I don't think I have ever said to anyone "look at my new knife/knives". The Busse TGLBay change all that when it gets here. I have been telling friends about it just because of some of the videos I've seen. BUT you oughta see the looks I get with my gun collection. The most common response is "you payed what for that thing!" To which my response is "hey it's a Rigby"

I haven't met anyone I could show my full collection to (and its not that big...). My experience has been that people in Australia have a very different view about blades IMO..

My friends can appreciate a hamon or nice san mai blade (or at least they pretend to)...

They would probably choke if I told them the prices... :)

I don't.
Aside from my knife buddies no one gets to see most of them. My GF has seen most, not all, and she knows I have 'a lot' and that's it.

 I hide my collection from my friends like I hide most of my drinking,...............to avoid an intervention.:cool:

Pffft. LOL, I just whip out the biggest baddest Busse and hand it to them...and then make it obvious that I'm stepping back a few steps. ;) It's kinda funny as you'd have thought (with the majority) that I just handed them a live rattlesnake! :D:D ...They handle it with utmost care.

The biggest reactions are with the KZIILE and my monster SK. :)

hmm, my Bussekin collection is still small, only about 8, most users.

Don't show them off as a "collection," but i do carry the TGLB on the weekends, and i love it when a friend says "what's that."

i've learned that the best thing to do is say "Strongest knife in the world, this one happens to be on that show Walking Dead" and they seem to think that's cool.

As for their reaction, if i take it out and hand it to them, they usually take a step back. Guess i should really learn to hand it to them handle first ;)

Kidding aside, most of friends are knife/firearms savvy, in a practical sense, so i usually just get an "oh, good looking kid, wanna see mine" type of parental reaction.

I have a 17 year old daughter. I'll show any boys that com around my machete collection!

I saw Roenman's collection of Mean Streets..amazing collection!:thumbup:I fingerprinted each and every one of them all up and then cleaned them all off. There were 3 or 4 that really wanted to come home with me...
