I believe all sharp and/or pointy knives are to be banned in the UK. THIS thread is good evidence as to why. ;) YOU sir are a danger to yourself and others. :p

True safety first!
I very rarely get nicked by my knives so I thought Id share and see who else has gotten some "love bites" haha

This is one of those things that gets repeated over and over, and it just isn't true, from my experience. I worked as a caterer throughout high school and college, so used kitchen knives of various types constantly. There are many, many situations in which a sharp knife will cut you where a dull knife would not have been able to do so. Accidentally grazing your fingers between the first and second knuckles (while in the claw grip), wiping off the knife with a kitchen towel a little carelessly, etc.--these things happen to everyone, no matter how skilled.

The idea of a dull knife being more dangerous because you have to apply more pressure to cut and the knife could skid/suddenly go through a material is not something I ever saw in practice.

No picture because I cant get my blade that sharp... well done (the sharpening)

That edge looks fine to me!!!
😬😬

I've always wanted to argue against this maxim too. I've cut myself more often with my super sharp knives than my dull ones. Of course it's carelessness, but if my ZT wasn't so dang sharp I wouldn't have cut myself at least three different occasions, while attempting closing it one handed with its firm detent. That blade just barely touches me it seems, and I bleed. Gets me right on the right thumb knuckle every time. Lol. [emoji41]

How many dull knives do you guys keep using that you can say they cut you less?
My sharp ones cut me more often too but only because I use sharp ones much much more often. If anything gets dull it gets sharpened.

Maybe not for the more skilled people, but for the casual housewife, househusband, kid I would say more dangerous. I have seen many people cut towards themselves.

I would agree that a very sharp knife in the hands of someone unexperienced is a bad combo
In my case it was just one of those times you get nicked ( carelessness)
But yes it would be like starting a new driver off in a Gen 1 Dodge Viper ( let the crashing commence)

I completely agree with the folks above correctly stating that crazy sharp knives are more of a danger than dull knives. I'm constantly cleaning/waxing/refinishing/tinkering with my ever-growing custom fixed blade collection, & even though I'm safe, I spend so much time at it that I suffer the occasional slip....and because all of my knives are stupid sharp, one small slip leads to the cutting edge &-or tip bouncing off of bone or slicing way deeper & longer than a dull knife would have. But, it's well worth the occasional pain, and my hands look super manly with all the scars...turns the wife on.....alright, it doesn't, but whatever...it should.

Years ago when I finally learned how to put a proper edge on a blade I discovered that I had to stop stripping wire using the rolling the wire between my thumb and blade and pulling the insulation free method.
Quite a few bloody thumbs till I picked up a proper stripper.
There are only a few other examples of a knife being too sharp but as a rule these days if it won't whittle hair it doesn't go in my pocket. Not the most practical application whittling hair, just a gauge.
