Where are Custom Handmade knives headed in 2016...? 2017

It's all about the tactical folding knife right now. I've seen so many makers abandon their fixed blade designs in favor of making folders. I predict alot of fixed blade makers going to making folders as they improve their skill set, and equipment.

The longevity of the EDC gadgetry thing going on nowadays (bottle openers, single finger knucks etc) is a tough one to predict. To be honest, I am over it.

I'm still waiting for the tactical folder bubble to burst, lol :)

Lolz, Don ! :thumbup: :D
Never watched it, any good ? a member here ?

Doug

Don't know about membership status here.... Just imagine welding a bunch of junkyard mystery crap into a "cool looking" sculpture you can set on fire, which vaguely resembles a cutting instrument. It's rough work by the standards of this group. Not to begrudge any artist who finds a way to make a living... hope he does well.

big steel and smaller fixed is where i live, bring it on...classical japanese takedown construction revival, anyone?
@lorien @lycosa

Good post, Josh.
islandblacksmith- I'd love to see some take-downs but dunt these knives require lots of extra work?
rolf

lots of extra work and a lot less epoxy...but they are so much fun to play with and so handy to sharpen and clean when you can quickly field-strip the blade... ^__^
@lycosa

I don't know all about the market, but I checked my orders for the next year or so. Seeing more ornate, mixed with modern materials(carbon fiber, titanium), futuristic/unique designs, salted with some more traditional...like checkering:eek: I'll have to leave it to the experts to sort out the why...I'm just glad to be working!:)

@lycosa

How will the construction hold up to everyday use? Can things "loosen up" with repeated assembling/disassembling and use?

Never underestimate the power of the fan boy.

Wisdom, Ben. ^
islandblacksmith- I'll get in an order with you for a take-down if the star$ align.
Thanks...

@lycosa you know where to find me when the planetary interfaces transcribe the predetermined circumnavigation (if not sooner!)

@patrice i am thinking more of a "fine wine" style revival for the discerning and educated clientele...but yes they are pretty tough when built right and properly cared for...a thousand years of research & design has given us a good foundation to build on ^__^

@stezann mmm...dessert...

2015-16 All the cool kids will want a traditional Frame-lock. Hint..

I want to be a part of this Rick....hint :)

I agree with the makers who are seeing a trend for smaller edc fixed blades and unique traditional styled folders. At least, as a buyer, that's what I'm requesting on my build jobs.
