Where are the Bill Hooks?

a true "billhook" was available at one time from kellems----from martini of finland--excellent/outstanding cutter---can cut grass like a sickle--brush like a brush axe--tree/limbs like an axe---fire sticks like a knife-- i think you could field dress elk/deer with it. if you find someone to make one let me know i would like a custom
one.
They reintroduced them last year and I had to get one, they were and once again are a great tool:

Goodness, what blackberry brambles! I'd definitely go with a long thin machete for that kind of work, if not a slasher. I believe there's actually such thing as a "blackberry hook" designed for just such a task.

Billhooks are still widely available in Europe - suppliers can be found on the 'Where to Buy a Billhook' page on my website: http://www.billhooks.co.uk/where-to-buy-a-billhook/ As stated above, the greatest variety of patterns are to be found in Italy - in the UK and France the 200 plus regional patterns have been weeded down to less than half a dozen...

For brambles you want the long shafted 'serpe a ronces' (blackberry billhook), still made by most French makers...

The Kellam Island billhook appears to be the range of Finnish 'vesuri' made by a small regional maker, 'Härmän Taonta Oy '- see my list above... I have several - they are a good value, well made tool, but I would prefer to use an English tool for general 'coppice' work...
