Where can I buy a forge cheap?

Well guys, all I can say is sorry for posting the wrong url for Tim's forum. It looks like I can't even figure out the web address of one of the places I frequent daily! Like I've stated here before, I'm the worlds most computer challenged robotics tech! And MauiRob, was ist Mahalo? I'm also the most polynesian language challenged howlie in the world? If it means thanx, "you're welcome" but it was nothing! It'd be great if we got more guys beating iron around here. I'm about ready to start up again myself, took a couple years off due to a wrist injury- I found out the hard way I wasn't meant to be a jack hammer operator:mad: Adios, stevo

Yvsa,

Thanks for the link. It gives me more stuff to look at during the night.

Bricks, charcoal and a hair dryer. Even I can do that :D. But my landlord would have a fit if I dug a hole in the front yard  . I'll have to look around to see where I can do that. ... the Forest Service gets real excited when you have an open flame on its land, and unfortunately, most of the area around here sits in the Black Hills National Forest.

Al, I think you could convert your oven into a forge -- just do the work in the kitchen. The landlord shouldn't mind this. Especially if you do it between midnight and 6AM. Nothing like hammers pounding hot steel to cure insomnia.

Yes, but not for long term as the hot charcoal fires will burn out the grill.
And the secret to using a charcoal grill or charcoal to forge with period is to use the proper charcoal.
Briquets are the wrong shape and have fillers in them. I have had a charcoal fire made from them hot enough to heat steel to bright red but it burns them up pretty quick. Get the plain charcoal chunks.
When Barb thinks about it and there's any charcoal left from our Atsila she picks it out for me for use sometime in the future if I ever get a round tuit.:)

There should be a place in the links I posted where it tells how to make your own charcoal.
I remember one being made from a 55 gallon drum. Bet your landlord would really freak over something like that. :p :D

And MauiRob, was ist Mahalo? I'm also the most polynesian language challenged howlie in the world?

Yep, it means thank you.:) Don't feel bad--some of the things the tourists used to say were really funny:D If you care its spelled Haole:) Got called that so much I looked it up;)

Maybe you like to try my linksite!;)
Go to Knivelinks, all sorts off..
You'll find a directory about Knifemaking but also tools and supply.
Hope you'll find the answer there.
Good luck!
